Michael Long, David Wietholder, Kevin Tomlinson, Jeff DeLonjay and Laine VanZandt all grabbed feature event wins during Sullivan Auctioneers Night at the Races on Sunday July 7 at Quincy Raceways.

A huge five car pileup on the initial start of the UMP Super Late Model main event sent the field into a tizzy as Chad Stapleton ended up on his roof in the mess. Stapleton was sent to the hospital but was concious and talking complaining of back pain. After the restart order was sorted out, Michael Long ended up on the inside of row one with Mark Burgtorf to his outside. Long and Burgtorf battled for a couple of laps with Long gaining the edge and pulling out to a comfortable margin as the thirty lapper wore on. Burgtorf battled with Denny Woodworth and Ricky Frankel for the second spot with Burgtorf getting the advantage as he slowly closed the gap to a fleet Long. Long was able to maintain his advantage and at the checkered flag he held a 1.34 second lead over Burgtorf in second, followed by Woodworth in third, Frankel in fourth and Clint Kirkham in fifth. Kirkham set fast time during qualifying with Jerry Lierly claiming the win in the Fast 6 Dash. Chad Stapleton took the win in the qualifying heat race.
Michael Long and Steven DeLonjay were putting on quite a battle for the lead in the Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event until DeLonjay’s contact with a lapped car forced an accident that put both Long and himself to the tail of the field. David Wietholder then took over the lead and looked to be well onto his way to his second feature win of the year at Quincy until a white flag lap caution period setup a green white checkered finish. Long had managed to claw his way back through the field into second at the lap 29 caution setting up a real battle for the win with Wietholder. Wiethold jumped to the lead on the restart on the bottom line and held Long back to claim a popular feature event win followed by Long in second, Shawn Deering in third, Adam Birck in fourth and Mike Vanderiet in fifth. Long set the fast time in qualifying with DeLonjay scoring the win in the Fast Six Dash. Shawn Deering and Shane Lewis took the heat race wins.
Kevin Tomlinson stepped into Michael Larsen’s IMCA Stock Car while Larsen nursed a sore arm and it paid off as Tomlinson scored a narrow feature event win over Brandon Savage and Abe Huls during a green white checkered finish to the main event. Savage settled for second with Huls in third, Terry Houston in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth. Savage and Tomlinson were the heat race winners.
Jeff DeLonjay scored a big feature event win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA SportMod main event after holding Tony Dunker at bay over the closing laps. Dunker settled for the second spot followed by Tanner Klingele in third, Joe Blivens in fourth and Joe Hooper in fifth. Dunker and DeLonjay were the heat race winners.
Lane VanZandt turned his outside second row starting spot into a feature event win in the IMCA Sport Compact feature event. VanZandt held off a very determined Pat Dunker by a nose to take his second feature win of the season. Duker settled for second followed by Austin Bercerra in third, Kimberly Abbott in fourth and Brandon Lambert in fifth. Abbott and Bercerra were the heat race winners.
Coming up next at Quincy Raceways on Sunday July 14 will be the Heetco and the rescheduled Ursa Farmers COOP Night at the Races. The pit gates open at 3:30, Grandstands at 5. Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing scheduled for 6:30pm. Visit Quincy Raceways online at www.quincyraceways.com or call the Track Hotline at 217-224-4100 for more information.
