GREENWOOD, Neb. (July 20) — Rodney Sanders put an exclamation point on a perfect weekend as he raced to his second straight win Saturday night at the I-80 Speedway to complete the sweep of the 3rd Annual Silver Dollar Nationals.

Johnny Scott beat polesitter Zack VanderBeek into the first turn at the start of the 35-lap main event, and proceeded to lead the first 14 laps before Friday night’s runner-up, Jason Hughes, charged into the top spot.

Meanwhile, 15th-starting Sanders moved by five cars in the first four laps to crack the top ten and was fourth by the time Hughes slipped past Scott.

Hughes remained in control for the next eight laps, but Sanders scooted by on the outside of turn 4 to take control won lap 23. From there, ‘The Rocket’ launched off into the distance to score his 17th career USMTS victory and second in as many nights.

Sanders’ seventh win of the 2013 campaign was worth $5,350 including a $250 bonus from ASi Racewear for being the hard charger over the course of the four nights during the inaugural “Clash of the Titans.”

Jeremy Payne, who clinched the Arbor Masters Central Region title when he took the green flag in his heat race, got by Hughes with six laps remaining to take home the runner-up paycheck. Hughes finished third to garner his second podium finish of the weekend.

VanderBeek remained in the mix the entire 40 laps and wound up fourth. Rick Beebe recorded a season-best fifth-place finish while Darron Fuqua, Scott, Kelly Shryock, Trevor Hunt and Brad Dierks completed the top 10.

Payne’s first USMTS title earned him an additional $5,000 and placed him into the season-ending Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup. Each of the other top 15 drivers in the region-Hughes, Johnny Scott, VanderBeek, Shryock, Stormy Scott, Thomas Tillison Jr., Sanders, Hunt, Austin Siebert, Joey Galloway, Ryan Gustin, Beebe, Jeff Conner and Masen Big Eagle-also guaranteed themselves a place in the rankings in the chase for the 2013 USMTS national championship.

The next stop for the stars and cars of the USMTS is the 3rd Annual World Modified Dirt Track Championship presented by Bauer Built Tire and Hanson Tire Service next Wednesday-Saturday, July 24-27, at the Deer Creek Speedway.

The best of the best in the dirt modified racing world will invade the iconic high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval in Spring Valley, Minn., to battle for the $20,000 winner’s share of the purse and more than $160,000 in prize money over the four days.

Reserved seat tickets for adults (ages 13 and older) are available by purchasing a four-day ticket for $100 (save $10 off single-day ticket price) and can be ordered online at www.deercreekspeedway.com or by calling toll-free 877-327-7223.

General admission single-day tickets for adults are $25 during the first three days and $35 on Saturday. Kids ages 12 and younger are $10 each day or $40 for a four-day reserved ticket. Pit passes are $35 each during the first three days and $40 on Saturday, or a four-day pit pass may be purchased for $125 (save $20 off single-day pit pass price).

Grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. and hot laps begin at 6:30 Wednesday through Friday. All times are one hour earlier on Saturday.

The Deer Creek Speedway sits on 60 acres of scenic rural rolling hills with one of America’s most popular state-of-the-art racing complexes and a busy modern campground. The 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval is located 11.3 miles south of I-90 (exit 209) on US 63 (0.7 mile north of SR 16) in Spring Valley, Minn. For more info, call toll-free 877-327-7223 or 507-346-2342 on race day or visit www.deercreekspeedway.com online.
