BELLEVILLE, Ill. (July 20, 2013)—Saturday’s $10,000-to-win third annual National Speed Sport News 66 Mike Phillips Memorial at Belle-Clair Speedway was postponed indefinitely by rain. Promoter Brad McDaniel, the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series and Belle-Clair expect to find a date to reschedule it.
Fifteen-year-old Cale Thomas of Fairland, Ind., won Friday’s 30-lap preliminary, putting him on pole for the 40-lap grand finale. The top-six finishers are locked into the feature, starting in the positions they finished Friday. Chris Andrews of Tulsa, Okla., will start on the outside of the front row, Todd Kirkman of Kokomo, Ind., and Joe B. Miller on the second row and Andrew Peters of Converse, Ind., and Nathan Benson of Concordia, Mo., on the third row. The remaining 18 starters will be determined by heat and qualifying races.
The next event for the POWRi Outlaw Micros is the Arnie Knepper Memorial at Belle-Clair on Aug. 11.
