POWRiInside Line Promotions – SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (Aug. 6, 2013) – One of the great things about racing is the frequency of events, giving drivers a quick return to action to erase difficult outings.

That is exactly what Andrew Felker is looking forward to on Sunday at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., for the Knepper Memorial with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series after a challenging weekend.

“I had good cars a couple of the nights and couldn’t finish them off,” he said. “I’m definitely looking forward to getting back to little Belleville.”

It started a week ago Tuesday at Solomon Valley Speedway in Beloit, Kan., with the Honda USAC National Dirt Midget Series. Felker qualified 13th quickest and won his heat race to advance to the feature, which he started 13th.

“They had a bunch of rain the night before,” he said. “The track was pretty slimy all night. I had a really good car and got up to ninth and it was just past halfway when I ran out of tearoffs. It was four or five laps before we had a red flag. We threw another 10 tearoffs on and I ripped through them in about five laps. It was basically hold on and save as many positions as we could. The track never went away all night.”

Felker finished 12th in the feature on the heavy track.

He headed to Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kan., on Thursday for the opening night of the 36th annual Belleville Midget Nationals with the Honda USAC National Dirt Midget Series. Felker qualified 13th quickest and placed fifth in his heat race, which lined him up 13th in the main event.

“It was wide open,” he said. “We ran through the middle at both ends and then the top toward the end. We missed the gear a little bit. It was on the chip at the middle of the straightaway.”

Felker picked up a handful of positions and ended ninth, which was his 22nd top-10 finish of the season.

The team made some changes prior to the finale of the Belleville Midget Nationals on Saturday, when Felker placed second in his heat race to lock into the A Main dash. He then advanced from sixth to fifth place, which is where he started the feature.

“You’ve got to get to the top as quick as you can,” he said. “We were running eighth or ninth. The track started taking rubber and we didn’t have enough stagger. It just made the car too tight.”

Felker narrowly missed another top 10 and finished 11th.

He hauled to Angell Park Speedway on Sunday for the 37th annual Al Fredenberg Memorial. Felker qualified 12th quickest and drove from third place to win his heat race. He then started the 50-lap feature on the inside of the sixth row.

“We snuck around three or four cars early,” he said. “We managed to work our way to third on Lap 31. At that point there were six of us on the lead lap. The second place car biked up the track. I drove by him and ended up biking in (turns) three and four, and fell back to sixth. I got by a couple of cars and got back up to fourth around Lap 45.

“On the restart I went into the corner and a lapped car biked in (turns) one and two. He tried to collect it and he clipped Brad Kuhn. I think that knocked his front end out and that killed it. We were already in the cushion with no place to go. I smashed into him and the fifth-place car ran into me and we started flipped.”

Felker finished the night with a destroyed race car and a 14th-place result.
