(Moberly, Mo) – Just five events remain on this year’s Lucas Cattle Company ULMA schedule. Last weekend, Tommy Cordray returned to victory lane for the first time since last August by claiming the win at Randolph County Raceway (RCR) while Jason Russell cruised to his 7th trip to victory lane at Callaway Raceway.

Cordray’s eighth-career ULMA win came to him from third on the starting grid at RCR where he’s ran strong in the past and was finally able to put the gremlins behind him. Cordray started the night by finishing second behind Larry Winn in the first heat race of the night while track stalwart Vance Wilson outlasted Ashlee Lancaster to take the win in the second heat race of the night among the 13 competitors on hand.

Wilson and Winn started the main event pacing the field on the front row. The lead pair quickly settled into a race pace with Cordray in the mix. Jon Melloway quickly worked his way to the top five continuing his late-season surge in the points by moving into the top five. Cordray eventually found his way to the front of the field where he held on for his first win of the year. Winn, Melloway, Wilson, and Kenny Mudd rounded out the top five. Lancaster Steve Dieckmann, Dave Miller, Chris Cox, and Mike Montague finished out the top ten.

ULMA racing continues at RCR this Saturday as the track continues to increase its footprint in local racing with close competition and a renewed interest in racing in North-Central Missouri. Visit the track’s website at www.randolphcountyraceway.com or call 660-833-1727 for details of this weekend’s schedule of events.

Jason Russell is well on his way to his second-consecutive ULMA championship season after claiming his unprecedented 15th ULMA win this season after driving to victory lane once again at Callaway Raceway. Russell has also tied Jason Bodenhamer atop the all-time ULMA wins list with 26 victories, which he has accumulated in just two seasons. In 22 starts this season, Russell has 1,803 points to Wilson’s 1,727, and rookie sensation Payton Looney’s 1,723. Behind the lead trio rounding out the top five are Justin Russell and the surging Jon Melloway.

As for the race at Callaway, the last of the year there for ULMA, Russell won by over a half a lap in a race that went green to checker. The best racing was behind the leader with Roark and McCoin swapping positions on several occasions in second and third and Looney and Winn for fifth. Roark eventually worked his way to a strong runner-up finish while McCoin settled for third in a week where he and his family suffered the tragic loss of a Son. ULMA wishes to express its condolences to the entire McCoin family on their loss.

Jon Melloway finished third with Winn claiming fifth, one run ahead of Looney in sixth. ULMA congratulates Payton Looney on his first-ever late model track championship, which he won in his rookie year at Callaway Raceway.
