Wheatland, Missouri – September 16th, 2013 – Cool temps and hot racing were the order of the evening this past Saturday, September 14th at Lucas Oil Speedway as Jon Sheets, Mike Montague, Brian Schutt, and Steve Muilenburg all captured Lucas Oil Speedway Main Event wins. “The track was tricky and slick this week but a great field of cars were on hand and the racing was fast and furious all night long.” commented track General Manager Dan Robinson.

The Carson’s Corner Napa Factory Stocks were first up and Brian Schutt used the low line to hold off a stalking Marc Carter to pick up the win and extend his point lead to 116 points in the season long battle for the Championship. Kenny Carrol started second but slid back to third at the finish. Chip Shaddox and Jay Prevete both had great runs to finish fourth and fifth respectively. Heat Race wins were captured by Schutt, Carter, and Carroll.

The Tri-Lakes RV B-Mods were next out on the ultra tricky dry slick track surface as Sparta, Missouri’s Steve Muilenburg took the win from his fourth starting, spot as he held off a charging Mike Streigal from Wheatland. Defending Lucas Oil Speedway Track Champion and current point leader Kris Jackson drove an unfamiliar #15 to a third place finish despite having to run the B-Main and starting 17th on the grid. Shawn Strong started ninth and finished fourth while Fort Scott, Kansas’ Andy Bryant finished in fifth in his first visit to Lucas Oil Speedway. Gary Fain, Donnie Fellers, Muilenburg, and Zach Zeugin won their respective heat races.

For the second race in a row, Lebanon, Missouri’s Mike Montague cruised to the ALPS Food Stores ULMA Late Model win. Payton Looney started outside the front row but was unable to mount a serious challenge on Montague as he finished in second. J.D. Hubert started fifth and finished third in his white and red 7J. Jason Russel started eighth and finished fourth while Ethan Young had a strong run to round out the top-5. Looney, Larry Jones, and Montague scored heat race wins earlier in the evening.

The final race of the night was a barn burner as Nevada, Missouri’s Jon Sheets topped a stellar field of Pitts Homes USRA Modified competitors to take the special $1,000 to win main event. Sheets led the field to the green flag from the pole position but slipped back to third before racing his way back to the lead and the win. Chanute, Kansas’ John Allen, always in the hunt crossed the AAA Missouri Start/Finish line in second after starting fifth. Jeff Cutshaw worked his way to third at the finish after starting in the sixth spot. Terry Schultz struggled in his heat race but charged from twelfth to fourth at the finish. The drive of the night though may have belonged to Wheatland’s Jason Pursley as he scored a top-5 finish driving all the way from his 19th starting position on a track that was difficult to pass. Heat Race winners included Jason Russell, Sheets, Steve Muilenburg, and Lyle Dietrich.

Next up for the Lucas Oil Speedway is the Bill Roberts Chevrolet-Buick Season Championships on Saturday, September 21st as all four Lucas Oil Speedway Weekly Racing Series Champions will be crowned. The final event of the season is on Friday and Saturday, September 27th-28th as the Sprint Cars roll into town for their final appearance of 2013 for the 3rd Annual Lucas Oil ASCS Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.
