World of Outlaws Late Model SeriesNational Tour Will Not Sanction Feb. 7-8 ‘Winter Freeze’ At Georgia’s Screven Motor Speedway

CONCORD, NC – Jan. 10, 2013 – The 2014 World of Outlaws Late Model Series season will begin on Feb. 14-16 at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., rather than the previous weekend at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., as originally scheduled, series officials announced on Thursday.

A disagreement over tire rules prompted the national tour to drop its sanctioning of the Feb. 7-8 ‘Winter Freeze’ doubleheader at Screven, which was slated to kick off the WoO LMS campaign for the third consecutive year. WoO LMS officials had anticipated running the events under the four-compound DIRTcar UMP Hoosier LM tire rule – the mandate used in 2013 at Screven and earmarked for nine Florida events that follow this year’s Winter Freeze – but Screven promoter James ‘Redd’ Griffin preferred an open tire rule.

“After discussing the situation Redd decided that he did not want to run the Hoosier LM tires or institute a similar limited-compound tire rule for the Winter Freeze,” said WoO LMS director Tim Christman. “As a result, we felt it was necessary to drop the World of Outlaws sanctioning of the weekend at Screven. We believe it would be unfair to all teams supporting us at Screven to allow an open-tire rule there and then continue our season-opening trip with nine nights of racing in Florida under the Hoosier LM tire rule.

“We’re disappointed that an agreement couldn’t be reached with Redd, but we have always had a great relationship with him and look forward to continue working with him in the future.”

Griffin announced that the Winter Freeze will still be contested on Feb. 7-8 as a pair of unsanctioned $10,000-to-win events.

Screven’s departure from the schedule moves the 2014 WoO LMS lidlifter to the egg-shaped, three-eighths-mile Bubba Raceway Park, which will host the Bubba Army Late Model Winter Nationals from Feb. 14-16. The huge tripleheader includes a 40-lap A-Main paying $8,000 to win on Fri., Feb. 14; a 50-lap A-Main offering $10,000 to win on Sat., Feb. 15; and a 60-lap grand finale with a $12,000 top prize on Sun., Feb. 16.

The WoO LMS will close out its season-opening burst of action on Feb. 20-22 with three 50-lap, $10,000-to-win events during the DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. Most World of Outlaws regulars will also compete at Volusia in DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned races on Feb. 17, 18 and 19.
