Pontoon Beach, IL – April 11th, 2014 – Tri-City Speedway opened up the 2014 racing season with some outstanding racing action in all five divisions.
Brian Shirley of Chatham, IL would claim the UMP DIRTcar Super Late Model main event as he held off the challenges of Randy Korte and Michael Kloos on the restarts after several late race cautions. Kloos made the final attempt at Shirley on the final restart with just five laps remaining and would get a nose under Shirley but Shirley would power back ahead. Kloos couldn’t get closer than a couple of car lengths of Shirley in final couple of laps and would settle for second behind Shirley. Korte would cross the line in third while a wild battle for the fourth spot ensued on the final lap. Scott Weber would would get under Tim Manville coming out of turn four on the final lap and claim the fourth spot which also allowed Billy Laycock to sneak by Manville on the low side get grab fifth, pushing Manville outside the top five.
Michael Long of Quincy, IL started off the 2014 racing season just as he ended his 2013 Championship season at Tri-City Speedway as he grabbed the UMP DIRTcar Modified feature win. Ray Walsh made a late race attempt on Long after a restart but Long proved too strong and held on for the win. Joe Walsh would settle for third after battling with Long for the lead early on. Rick Stevenson would take the fourth spot with Mike Francis rounding out the top five.
Aaron Heck of Mt. Vernon, IL took home the UMP DIRTcar Pro Late Model win. His brother Charlie Heck led most of the race, but he got into the wall exiting turn four and climbed the front stretch wall which heavily damaged his machine and sidelined him. Kevin Cole made a late race charge at Aaron Heck but came up short and finished second. Paul Kuper, Josh Jackson and Andy Scoles rounded out the top five.
Dan Pilkington held off his teammate Jacob Rexing to claim the UMP DIRTcar Factory Stock main event.
Jeff Frohwitter took home the UMP DIRTcar Pro Modified win as held off the challenges of Kyle Stolzer.
