Terry McCarl made a statement in qualifying and then backed it up the rest of the night, as he dominated the entire event during the Midwest Open Wheel Association Sprint Car Series presented by Casey?s General Stores event at 34 Raceway, Saturday.

After setting quick-time with a 12.843, Terry McCarl was the only one of the four fastest qualifiers to win his heat race. The Altoona, Iowa, driver then drew a seven for the invert in the eight car dash.

The invert put Craig Dollansky on the pole, with McCarl starting seventh. McCarl then worked through the field to finish second, behind Dollansky, and gain an outside front row starting spot for the feature.

At the drop of the green flag for the 30-lap feature event, McCarl jumped out to a commanding lead and was never really challenged, though he did have to survive a pair of mid-race restarts.

Dollansky settled into second place, while Paul Nienhiser (who started

10th) began a charge to the front.

The caution flew for the first time on lap four, when Joey Moughan, who was running in the top five, spun.

Nienhiser had already climbed to the top six when the first caution flew, and battled with Kevin Swindell, Ian Madsen and Jerrod Hull for a top five spot on the restart, before Scotty Neitzel brought out the only other caution of the event on lap 14 when he spun in turn four.

On the final restart, Nienhiser made a nice move from fourth to second, and was up to second at the completion of lap 15. But, there was no catching McCarl, who had ¾?s of a straightaway advantage the rest of the event. Dollansky held on for third, while Swindell and Madsen rounded out the top five.

The MOWA Sprint Car Series presented by Casey?s General Stores is back in action, Friday, April 18, as it makes its first stop at Tri-City Speedway, Pontoon Beach, Ill.  For more information checkout www.midwestopenwheel.com.
