UNION, KENTUCKY (April 19, 2014) – Darrell Lanigan and Jimmy Owens shared center stage in what was a hard-fought short track Saturday Night battle of Club 29 Race Cars at Florence Speedway. Lanigan, of Union, Ky., would come out on top after a last lap attempt by Owens and capture his first-career Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals by Schaeffer’s Oil victory which was worth $5,000 to the hometown driver taking the payday in front of a great crowd during the 38th Annual Spring 50. Lanigan drove his Lanigan Autosports, Keyser Manufacturing and Hoosier Racing Tire sponsored Cornett Racing Engines powered Club 29 Race Car to the win. He also became the 15th different Spring Nationals Series winner.

Owens would settle for second after a late race surge while driving the Reece Monument sponsored Club 29 Race Car. Behind Lanigan and Owens in the finish was Indiana, Pa. driver Gregg Satterlee who completed his third-straight top-five finish in just his third series start while driving the Keyser Manufacturing Rocket Chassis. Finishing fourth was ninth starter Dustin Linville in the Graphic Impressions sponsored Swartz Race Car. Completing the top-five was Jeff Babcock of Wayne, Oh. in the Best Performance Motorsports sponsored Rocket Chassis. The top-five drivers were the only drivers in the field of 24 that remained on the lead lap after a 44-lap green flag run sent the majority of the field a lap down to the leaders.

Two yellow flags slowed the event. The first yellow would wave on lap three as Jesse James Lay slowed on the backstretch. The final yellow would wave on lap-47 as Michael Chilton came to rest on the front chute.

The Series will be back in action for the final three races May 8/9/10 at Duck River (Tenn.) Raceway Park on Thursday May 8, then Boyd’s (Ga.) Speedway on Friday May 9th and Dixie (Ga.) Speedway on Saturday May 10th to crown the 2014 Champion.
