Ryan Unzicker, Jacob Poel, Abe Huls, Joey Gower and Austen Bercerra all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways during the 2014 opening night on Sunday April 20 during the ALMS Late Model Special Event.

Ryan Unzicker jumped into the early lead of the forty lap Sunoco ALMS feature event with Bobby Pierce in hot pursuit. Pierce would work Unzicker high  and low until finally making the pass for the lead coming off turn four on the twenty seventh lap. Pierce would then pull out to a small lead with Unzicker hot on his heels. Pierce looked to have the event well in hand until crossing the finish line on the thirty second lap when his engine quit giving the lead back to Unzicker. Unzicker then managed to hold off a hard charging Kevin Weave to take the $2000 winner check with Weaver in second followed by Jason Riggs in third, Denny Woodworth in fourth and Mark Burgtorf in fifth. Jason Perry and Unzicker set quick time in their group during qualifying with both also taking the heat race wins.

Jacob Poel of Spring Lake, Michigan held off Michael Long to grab the Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event win. Michael Long started the main event on the pole position with Poel on the outside of row one as the green flag waved. Long held the top spot through the first ten curcuits but Poel managed to get by for the lead on lap eleven with Long hot on his heels. Poel then held off Long to the checkered flag by less than a second followed by Steven DeLonjay in third, Robbie Reed in fourth and Shane Lewis in fifth. The heat race wins went to Shawn Deering and Jared Schlipman with Long claiming the Fast Six Dash win.

Abe Huls started off the 2014 season in the right way by leading every lap of the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car main event. Huls was challenged by Jumpin Jimmy Lynch the entire distance but held off the Iowa speedster to take the win followed by Lynch in second, Jerry Jansen in third, Jake Powers in fourth and Brandon Savage in fifth.

Joey Gower showed he is going to be a power to be reconded with in the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA SportMod division. Gower blasted to a four and a half second win over Tony Dunker in the main event followed by Bobby Anders in third, Aaron Brockseick in fourth and Charles VanZandt in fifth. The heat race wins went to Tanner Klingele and Bobby Anders.

Austen Bercerra continued his dominance of the regions IMCA Sport Compacts as he picked up his third feature win of the weekend. Bercerra led every lap of the fifteen lap main event as he topped Kimberley Abbott in second, Mike Horning in third, Pat Dunker in fourth and Bryce Baker in fifth. Pat Dunker took the heat race win.

The Casey General Stores Weekly Racing Series continues on Sunday April 27 at Quincy Raceways featuring a $1000 to Win $125 to Start Miller Lite UMP Modified Special Event. The 40 lap main event should draw a solid field of UMP Modifieds to compete at the “Cathedral of Commotion”. The 305 Sprint Cars will be on tap for this event as well as the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Cars, Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA SportMods and the IMCA Sport Compacts.  The pit gates open at 3, Grandstands at 4, Driver Registration ends at 5, Hot Laps at 5:15 and racing scheduled for 6:00pm.
