American Modified SeriesBloomington, IN-April 25, 2014- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series made its only appearance of the 2014 season at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, IN on Friday evening for the 1st Annual J.B. Robinson Memorial event and Devin Gilpin of Columbus, IN would become the first repeat winner with the series in 2014 by taking the victory in the 30 lap main event aboard the Don Fleetwood owned DASCO Race Supply/A-1 Pallet/Bane Logging/Brown Oil Service/Blondie’s Pizzeria and Pub/TomCat Performance/Bilstein/Landrum Springs/FAST Shafts/Slicker Graphics/All Star Performance/BSB Manufacturing sponsored #1G Impressive Race Car sporting power from a Mike Shell Race Engine.

The victory was worth $2,000 and would be Gilpin’s fourth career series victory and his second win with the tour in 2014. The event was the fourth of the season for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series and there have been three different winners so far this season.

Ryan Thomas would take the lead at the start of the event, with Gilpin nipping at his heels, followed by a battle for third between Roy Bruce, Jr. and Kent Robinson, with Brandon Green riding fifth. Gilpin would turn the wick up in the battle with Thomas for the lead at lap 6, with Bruce, Jr. and Robinson continued to battle for third. As Gilpin closed in on Thomas for a possible pass, the first of three cautions waved on lap 8 as Jason Clark would spin in turn two. The double-file restart would see Gilpin take the lead away from Thomas off of turn two, while Bruce, Jr. began pressuring Thomas for second, with the duo trading the spot three times on laps 12 and 13 before the caution would wave for a spin by Sam Wray in turn four slowed the action. The restart would see Gilpin get a great drive off the bottom of turn two and put some distance between himself and now second place Bruce, Jr., while Green would change his line to the top groove and start mowing down the competition, rolling to third by lap 17 when the final caution of the event flew for another spin by Jason Clark. The restart would see Gilpin again get away from the pack, while Thomas would squeeze past Bruce, Jr. and Thomas and Green would settle into a great battle for second. The final six laps would see Gilpin pull away from the field and see chief starter Rusty Nunn’s double-checkered flag first, with Thomas winning the battle for the runner-up position over Green. Bruce, Jr. and Robinson completed the top five.

The remainder of the top ten in the finishing order at Bloomington Speedway’s 1st Annual J.B. Robinson Memorial were Josh Harris, Victor Lee, Jeff Curl, Brad Barrow, and Chad Combs. The $2,000 to win event would be slowed by three caution periods.

In preliminary action, Josh Harris would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among 31 entries at 12.871 seconds. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Ryan Thomas, while Roy Bruce, Jr. scored the win in Wiles Driveshafts heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Devin Gilpin, with Kent Robinson winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. Clayton Perry would be the winner of the Stealth Racewear B-Main, while series provisional starting positions went to Ricky Tinch and Justin Coulter.
