POWRi(Jacksonville, IL) The Opening night of the POWRi Illinois Speed Week on Thursday June 5th has been moved from Jacksonville Speedway to Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Illinois. The move was requested by CILTRAK, the promotion team that operates both tracks. The purpose of the change is to give an opportunity to fans in the Illinois, Iowa and Missouri Tri-State Area to experience the excitement and expand the reach of what has become a marquee series of events on the National open wheel calendar.

“We have been working with POWRi since the winter to bring a POWRi event to Quincy Raceways but were unable to find the right date,” Ken Dobson of CILTRAK said. POWRi is a great partner of CILTRAK as we host nine events at our tracks. We just finished an incredible night with POWRi in Jacksonville and in roughly a month we would be doing it all over again for Speed Week. We want to keep our POWRi dates meaningful and special. We also have the second night of Speed Week the next night in Lincoln, which covers much of the same fan base as Jacksonville.

“We really want our friends in the POWRi community to experience what we are building in Quincy and also want the Quincy fans to experience POWRi racing”, said Dobson. This past Friday at Jacksonville we had some of our Quincy staff on hand and it was impossible to wipe the smile off of their face after seeing a live short track midget race for the first time. This is something we believe will help continue to build midget racing in the Midwest.”

Jacksonville Speedway will be hosting the POWRi series on September 12th and October 11th. The track will also be adding a night of local racing in the near future to make up for the schedule change.

In addition to its designation as Illinois Speed Week, the four nights also mark the conclusion of the 16 race Midget World Championship which began in New Zealand and Australia in December. Quincy Raceways is 60 miles West of Jacksonville and is easily accessible from any direction. Quincy Regional Airport which is roughly one mile East of the Raceway has six daily round trip flights to St. Louis through Cape Air.
