Ponderosa SpeedwayJunction City, KY-May 30, 2014- It would be Armed Forces Night at Ponderosa Speedway and the track would pay homage to all military in attendance, along with presenting a great night of racing competition. Feature winners for the evening included Victor Lee of Danville, KY in Super Late Models, Ryan Thomas of Gosport, IN in Modifieds, Todd Coffman of Junction City, KY in Pro Late Models, and Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY in Sportsman.

The Super Late Model main event would get off to a rocky start as a tangle on lap 1 in turn four would result in the cars of Derek Fisher, Timmy Taylor, and J.L. Muse wrecking, resulting in a red flag for a blocked track, with all three being done for the night. The restart would see Dustin Neat outduel Tim Tungate for the race lead and Neat would hold the point, with Tungate, Victor Lee, and Justin Rattliff giving chase. Rattliff’s night would come to an end on lap 11 when his mount slowed with mechanical issues in turn two. The restart would see Lee drive past Tungate for second and one circuit later, Neat would fall victim to Lee’s charge and Lee would take the race lead. Lee would pull away in the remaining laps to capture his third win of the season at the track aboard his Xtreme Style Signs and Graphics/Eagle Heavy Haulers/Jay Construction/Pingleton Trucking sponsored #4 Revelution Race Car powered by a Day’s Race Engine. Neat and Tungate would finish second and third respectively, while Gary Christian would win the battle for fourth with Dion Benningfield. Eleven entries would see be Rattliff be top qualifier at 13.670 seconds, while heat race victories fell to Neat and Tungate.

The Modified feature contest would see Benji Lee take the early lead only to lose it when he slowed with a broken right front shock on lap 4 after contact with the outside retaining wall. This would hand the lead over to Rocky Wilson and Wilson would lead until lap 7 when his mount slowed on the frontchute with mechanical problems. Jeff Watson would now hold the race lead and would hold it until lap 11 when eighth place starter Ryan Thomas would nip him at the line by the front bumper for the lead. Thomas would survive two more caution periods to take the race win in the seat of the Kerry Trowbridge owned Automotive Specialists/Johnson Heating and Air/Tri County Auto and Oil/Pro Crafters/Brunner and Son Lawn Maintenance/Dexter’s Gun and Ammo/KY Clutch sponsored #16 Diamond Race Car powered by a Pro Power Race Engine. Watson would take runner-up honors, with youngster Blake Brown, Jeff Rawlings, and Mike Petrey completing the top five. Fifteen entries would have Lee as top qualifier at 15.160 seconds, while heat wins fell to Lee, Wilson, and Mikah Reams.

The Pro Late Model feature would see Wesley Brummett and Zane Powell trade the lead two times in the opening lap of the event, before Brummett secured the lead on lap 3. After a caution for a slowed Dennis Barton, action resumed and sixth starting Todd Coffman would work past Powell and dog Brummett for the lead and take the spot on lap 8. Coffman would pull away after the midpoint of the 20 lap event take fourth straight Pro Late Model win behind the wheel of the Sharon Coffman owned Coffman’s Photography/The Muffler Shop/Hurst Racing/Harrod Farms/Premier Self Storage/Auto Connection/Archie’s Tire/Todd’s Body Shop/Wilson Equipment sponsored #35 Rocket Chassis, GM604 powered mount.
