DIRTcar(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and his Iron Motorsports team invaded the legendary Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio from June 5-7 for the 20th edition of the ‘Dirt Late Model Dream.’ The three-day extravaganza at the 1/2-mile, high-banked speedplant kicked off with a pair of Twin 25 preliminary programs. On Thursday night, Jeep ran second in his heat race prior to claiming an eighth place performance in his $2,500 to win feature event. A similar story unfolded for the Pinconning, Michigan driver on Friday evening, as Jeep once again finished second in heat race action before ultimately claiming an eighth place effort in his $5,000 to win main event.

When Saturday rolled around at the “Big E,” all eyes were fixated on the hefty $100,000 top prize in the ‘Dirt Late Model Dream.’ Jeep scored the win in the all-important sixth heat race over Jason Feger, Matt Miller, and Dale McDowell, which locked him into the pole position for the 100-lap crown jewel main event. While he was unable to lead a lap in this year’s version of the ‘Dirt Late Model Dream,’ Jeep raced all over the top ten during the extra-distance affair before winding up ninth in the final finishing order. “It was a strong, consistent weekend for us and we made strides all three days on our car,” quoted Van Wormer earlier today. “I felt pretty good after our heat race win on Saturday and was excited to sit on the pole in the Dirt Late Model Dream. But, we just missed on a couple of small things with the car and our tires weren’t quite cut up where they needed to be, which caused them to overheat. Those are things you put in the notebook for September and hopefully we will be a little better in the World 100.”

Following the ‘Dirt Late Model Dream,’ the #55 team will enjoy the upcoming June 13-14 weekend away from the racetrack, while looking forward to their next two events. On Saturday, June 21, the American Late Model Series (ALMS) will sanction the 25th Annual ‘Barney Oldfield Race’ at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio. Then on Sunday, June 22, the I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan will play host to the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals Series. Both of these shows will pay $5,000 to the winner.
