mowa_2014_logoUrish wins first career MOWA feature at Quincy Hull extends point lead as Moughan, Bruns have engine problems By Dewain Hulett MOWA Media QUINCY, IL (July 6, 2014) – Since the Midwest Open Wheel Association Sprint Car Series presented by Casey’s General Stores held its first race at 34 Raceway in 2011, Chris Urish has been one of its biggest supporters.

Sunday, Urish’s persistence paid off, as he picked up his first career MOWA Sprint Car Series presented by Casey’s General Stores feature win, at Quincy Raceways.

Urish won his heat race and finished second to Jerrod Hull, in the dash, before leading the final 23 laps of the event to pick up the win.

After dominating the middle stages of the event, when he opened more than a straightaway lead over second place running Hull, Urish saw the lead slip away over the final five laps.

Hull, and Paul Nienhiser, who charged to third and was reeling in Hull, as the pair tracked down Urish, closed the gap to less than a handful of car lengths with three laps to go.

The top three ran the high side of the speedway for the first 23 laps, only to see Hull and Nienhiser dive the bottom in an attempt to real in Urish, and it worked.

Hull was nearly beside Urish as the pair took the white flag, and at the strip Urish was less than a half a car length ahead as the pair crossed the checkers nearly side-by-side.

Nienhiser had closed as well making a bid for the win, but would settle for third. Korey Weyant, who started 17th, charged to fourth, while Joe B. Miller rounded out the top five.

Weyant was the hard charger for the night, picking off 13 spots during the feature’s 25 laps.

The MOWA Sprint Car Series presented by Casey’s General Stores is off until July 23, when the fourth Illinois Sprint Week kicks off at Highland Speedway. July 24, the series stops at Tri-City Speedway, followed by July 25 at Jacksonville Speedway. And for the fourth year, the series’ Saturday night finale is at Macon Speedway, Macon, IL.
