kentucky-lake-motor-speedwayCALVERT CITY, Ky. – Dirt late model veteran Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Arkansas, dominated the Pro (Crate) Late Model 35-lap special Saturday night at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway, but his car weighed 10 pounds light in the post-race trip to the scales.

That made local driver Tait Davenport the winner of the $4,000 first-place payoff. It was his fourth victory of the season at KLMS.

Davenport, of Benton, Kentucky, worked his way up from fifth starting spot in the 30-car field and took second from Brent Lewis on the final lap. He trailed Wallace by about a half-lap, 7.686 seconds, when the checkered flag waved.

But he was a half-second in front of Lewis, and that was the margin that counted.

Jeff Walston was third, Troy English fourth and Tyler Allen rounded out the top five.

Tim Brown return to action for the first time since the April 26 Bluegrass Nationals and won the Late Model main event. Jarryd Holshouser, Jeffrey Bailey, Charles LaPlant and Dewayne Kiefer rounded out the finish.

Josh Tomlin won the Modified feature over Bryce Jewell. Jeff Elliott, J.R. Mason and Corey Kellems were second through fifth.

Dale Nelson took the Stock Car feature win, holding off the bid of Mike Hodges, who was trying for a third straight victory. Chase Estes, Mike Lentz and Tya Cunningham completed the top five.

The Crate main was slowed by two caution flags that resulted in complete restarts before the 35-lap chase could get under way. Just before the midway point, on lap 15, a spin by Evan Taylor in Turn 1 triggered a chain-reaction pileup that blocked the track and resulted in a red flag.

Taylor and Neil Neisler were the only ones unable to restart the race. Kolby Vandenbergh, who had worked his way from last-place starting spot to 15th place when he was caught up in the melee, was able to continue and finished 19th.

A special race paying $4,000 for Modifieds will highlight the July 19 program at the 3/8-mile dirt oval. Late Model, Crate and Stock Car races will also be on the program.
