tri-state-speedwayCLAUSON RETAINS THE INDIANA SPRINT WEEK TITLE FOR 2014

Haubstadt, IN – July 19, 2014 – Robert Ballou won the 30 lap USAC Sprint Car feature Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway. The event which unfolded before a large crowd served as the finale for Indiana Sprint Week. Ballou started on the pole for the main in what would become an outright duel between the Rocklin, CA, driver and local driver Kyle Cummins.

Ballou and Cummins exchanged the lead and were wheel to wheel at the line several laps. Ballou was credited with leading the first six laps and Cummins lead the next eight. A yellow flag on lap 14 brought about a restart which then worked to Ballou’s advantage. He reclaimed the lead. The two set a commanding pace. Cummins would

finish second. Lapped traffic came into play after lap 20. Fast qualifier Jon Stanbrough moved up to claim third spot. Brian Clauson started fourth and finished fourth. Daron Clayton was on the move and had the familiar 92 sprint up to fifth at the checkers after starting tenth.

Ballou’s victory was his third sprint car feature win in a row at Tri-State Speedway this season. It was his second in three nights on the Indiana Sprint Week circuit. The Don Ott powered Maxim has been producing the wins for Ballou Motorsports which is sponsored by Deaton Waterfront Services. Ballou was both excited and relieved in victory lane. “This car is what we have got so it’s what we bring.

Luckily we didn’t have too many cautions. It was as hot as it’s ever been!”

Brian Clauson was crowned as the ISW Champion in a second ceremony following the feature event. It was his second title. Clauson also took the title in 2013. “It was good to be able to finish this one off!” Rain prevented the final race from being held last year.

Clauson won features on Wednesday and Friday to take the week’s points lead. Clauson was as high as third in the feature running order Saturday until Jon Stanbrough slipped by him on the bottom.

The top five in sprint week points were Clauson, Ballou, Darland, Bacon, and Stanbrough.

Chase Stockon received the Hard Charger Award for the race as well as the Passing Master Award for the entire week which was based on the number of accumulated spots gained in the feature races. Saturday a broken axel during qualifying caused the car to turn over and a multi team effort got the car repaired in time to start the heat and make the feature. That heat was one of four very competitive heats that transferred four cars each into the feature. The winners were Kyle Cummins, Max McGhee, Chris Windom, and Brandon Mattox. Chad Boespflug won the 12 lap, eighteen car Semi feature.

Zach Fair of Petersburg, IN, won the UMP Open Wheel Modified feature.

Josh Harris led two-thirds of the 25 lap event. After a restart Fair passed both Dave Beck and Harris to gain his second win at the track this season. Harris placed second for his best finish so far this season. Beck was third with Michael Fox and Stan Beadles rounding out the top five. Harris and Fair won the two heat races.

The next event scheduled to be held at Tri-State Speedway will be the annual Hoosier Sprint Nationals which will pay $5,000 to win. The event set for August 2nd is sanctioned by MSCS. The UMP Modified cars will supply accompanying action.
