RURAL RETREAT, VIRGINIA (July 21, 2014) – To say that Jonathan Davenport’s Southern Nationals Series victory at Wythe Raceway was anything short of domination would be a sincere understatement.

The Mt. Airy, N.C. native captured his ninth career series victory in the flag-to-flag event while taking home the $3,500 payday on Monday Night during Round One of the ten race mini-tour. The defending series champion drove the K& L Rumley Enterprises Longhorn Chassis to the victory and he’s sponsored by C.V. Products, AES Racing, Rumley Enterprises, JRi Shocks and Mega Plumbing.

Davenport attributes tonight’s victory to his dedicated team. “I just can’t thank this team enough, Lee Roy & Kevin (Rumley) giving me an opportunity for this,” said the two-time series champion. “It feels like it’s been so long since I’ve been in this thing, we took a couple of weeks off and regrouped,” Davenport went on to say.

Fellow AES Racing-sponsored competitor Dennis Franklin finished second to Davenport in the main event and felt like he had a solid run in his Longhorn Chassis. “It’s brand new, in hot laps we just rode around, this Longhorn has been good, we just couldn’t turn tonight, we was a little tight, wish we could have given him a run for his money, but a brand new car I’m pleased with it,” stated Franklin.

By the time the sixth lap rolled around, Chris Madden would work his way around Ty Dillon for the fourth spot and hold it when Dillon slowed to bring out the first yellow. Madden would regain strength and take the third spot from Stacy Boles on lap eight and stay there until the feature’s end.

By the 11th lap, Madden would challenge Dennis Franklin for the third spot but Rambo would hold that Longhorn Chassis in the second spot as the laps went on.

Davenport crossed the finish line ahead of teammate Franklin and ninth starting Madden. Stacy Boles and Vic Hill would round out the top five finishers.

Madden’s Bloomquist-prepared hot rod rolled from ninth to third in the final finish and ‘Smoky’ was pleased with the results. “We had a really good car there coming up through there, kind of got into the quarter panel there and bent it up and hurt our air a little bit, but overall we had a good night, Scott (Bloomquist) and those guys worked hard on the car tonight. We came out with a new package from Penske tonight and have been working real hard on it and definitely make headway with it tonight,” said Madden from inside his race-car after the main event.

Four yellows slowed the event. The first yellow flag would come on lap six as Ty Dillon slowed on the back stretch with a right rear flat tire. On lap 11, Donald McIntosh would get crossed up in turn four and slow the field once again. On the 19th lap, Brandon Kinzer slowed with mechanical woes in turn two. Craig Vosbergen slowed on the 27th lap to bring out the final yellow flag.
