“It is just surreal,” said an excited race winner, Tanner Swanson. “We finally pulled it all together.”
It was literal heartbreak for Tanner Swanson who was the polesitter and dominated the entire race. The pivotal moment of the race was on lap 82 when Caleb Armstrong car expired in lane 2 which brought out the yellow flag. Prior to that yellow flag, Tanner Swanson had checked out and had a very comfortable lead over the rest of the field.
“I wish we could have missed that late race yellow,” said a dejected Tanner Swanson.
Now all the cars were all bunched back together at the restart. Swanson took the lead. Byrne still had his work cut out for him starting in fourth at the restart, including passing NASCAR regular Ryan Newman who was running second at the restart. With 10 laps, Byrne made a dramatic pass to shoot pass both Ryan Newman and Cody Swanson. Then Byrne set his sights on reeling in Swanson and finally he did it with a dramatic pass on the final turn won his first career victory in USAC Silver Crown.
