ASHLAND, KY (August 7, 2014) – Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series driver, Steve Francis has huge weekend in front him as the Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 commences this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at Florence Speedway in Union, KY. Steve who drives the Clint Bowyer Racing, Georgia Boot-sponsored Barry Wright Race Cars #15 enters the weekend fourth in the LOLMS Championship Points Standings.
Activity gets underway on Thursday Night with an open practice session. On Friday Night each driver entered in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event will run two heat races. The top 16 in passing points after their two heat races will set the first eight rows for Saturday Night’s $50,000 to win 100-lap main event. There will be B-mains, a dash, and a $2,500 to win non-qualifiers race on Saturday Night as well.
On Saturday afternoon at 4:30 PM, Steve will receive the highest honor bestowed on a dirt late model driver when he is inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame which is located at Florence Speedway. Steve’s racing career began in 1983 at the age of 16. Steve has won several of the sports’ biggest events including the World 100, the Dirt Track World Championship Race, the Topless 100, and the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals in Iowa.
On Saturday Night, Steve will once again attempt to become only the second driver from the state of Kentucky to win the Sunoco North South 100. Only the late, Jack Boggs of Grayson, KY has been able to keep the state’s richest dirt late model race honors in the Bluegrass State. Boggs was victorious in the race in 1992 and again in 1994.
