MADISON, Ill. –The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series headed to Gateway Motorsports Park over the weekend for the All American Hot Rod Showdown event and Jared Dreher, Clinton, Ind., and Steve Harker, Gainesville, Ga., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.
Dreher, worked his way through the field and ran 5.368 seconds at 264.86 mph in his final round victory over Marty Thacker, Robinson, Ill., who red lite off the line. Dreher made another full pass down the track to secure the win and his first Wally of the 2014 season.
Harker faced off against Dale Brand, Sully, Iowa, and posted a winning run of 6.294 seconds, 229.82 mph in his ’06 Monte Carlo. Brand drove to a 12.333 second, 69.91 mph lap for his runner up finish. Off the starting line Brand had the better light over Harker but Brand had some issues and Harker was able to drive by him to take the win. This is Harker’s second win of the 2014 season. He received his first win at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.
In Super Gas, Luke Bogacki, Carterville, Ill., took the win over Nathan Vrooman, Wabash, Ind. Bogacki posted a winning run of 9.913 seconds, 151.53 mph over Vrooman’s 9.890 second, 163.93 mph runner-up finish. Both drivers had great lights off the line but Bogacki had the better run down the track to take his 5th win of the year. This is his 3rd divisional win and he also has received 2 national event wins.
Other racers visiting the winner’s circle this weekend were Shaun Vincent, Omaha, Neb., in Comp Eliminator; Ricky Decker, Charlestown, Ind., in Super Stock; Chuck Weber, Frewsburg, N.Y., in Stock Eliminator; Edmond Richardson, Greenbrier, Tenn., in Super Comp; and Scotty Rienschield, Brookville, Ind., in Super Street. In the Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman class it was Scott Haas, Stillman Valley, Ill., taking the win while Christopher Carrico, Fort Wayne, Ind., won in the Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series.
North Central Division racers head to Beech Bend Raceway Park for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, August 22-24.
