kentucky-lake-motor-speedwayCALVERT CITY, Ky. – Hometown driver Tanner English, already a five-time winner in Late Model races at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway, stepped down to the Pro (Crate) Late Model ranks for a special $4,000-to-win feature Saturday night and added that one to his list of victories.

English caught up with dirt racing hall of famer Ronnie Johnson and took the lead on the 21st lap and led the rest of the way in the 35-lap event.

In other races on the program, Randy Sellars joined English as a five-time Late Model winner and Chase Estes took his second win in Stock Car, while Bryan Barber picked up his first victory in the Modified division feature.

Pole starter Kolby Vandenbergh led the first lap in a furiously contested Crate feature, with Johnson moving from his outside front-row starting spot to the front on the second lap.

English, who started on the outside of the third row, worked his way forward and was on Johnson’s rear bumper shortly after a caution flag for an eight-car tangle in Turn 4. He was able to challenge the leader repeatedly but could not make the pass until a second yellow for another multi-car wreck, this one involving seven cars, on lap 13.

The young driver and the veteran fought for command until English was able to make the pass on the high side, putting his car in front on lap 21. He opened up as much as a 1.2-second lead, neatly picked his way through lapped traffic and took the checkered flag a little more than a second ahead of Johnson.

Tait Davenport was third, followed by Kevin Cole and Vandenbergh.

Sellars and Estes led from start to finish in their victories. Charles LaPlant and Jeffrey Bailey were second and third in the Late Model main while Kassidi Gibbs made a late pass to take second place away from Mike Hodges in the Stock Car feature.

In the Modified main, Barber battled Josh Tomlin for six laps before managing to take the front spot away. He kept command and finished in front of Tomlin and Brandon McDowell.
