Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Heads to Tennessee and Indiana this Week

Lucas Oil Late Model SeriesWAYCROSS, GA (August 19, 2014) – The premier national touring series for super dirt late models will visit the states of Tennessee and Indiana this week. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will compete at a special mid-week show on Thursday, August 21st in East Tennessee at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN. The LOLMDS will sanction the 11th Annual “Scorcher”- Presented by Reece Monument Co. of Tazewell and O’Reilly Auto Parts. This annual event is run in conjunction with the NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway, just up the road from Volunteer Speedway. Activities will include LOLMDS Hot-Laps, Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-mains and a 50-Lap $10,000 to win feature event. The Modified Hobby Class will run as a support class to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Previous winners of the “Scorcher” are: Randle Chupp (2004), Rick Eckert (2005), Scott Bloomquist (2006), Chris Madden (2007), Jimmy Owens and Shane Clanton (2008), Tim McCreadie (2009), Jimmy Owens and Scott Bloomquist (2010), Jimmy Owens winning his third Scorcher in 2011,Billy Ogle Jr. winning in 2012 and Chris Madden winning in 2013. Following Thursday night’s show at Volunteer Speedway, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will travel to the state of Indiana and visit Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, IN on Saturday August 23rd. The LOLMDS sanctioned event “Whiskey City 50 – Presented by Sign-A-Rama will be the seventh appearance at the immaculate facility promoted by Dave and Kim Rudisell. In the previous five races at “The Burg”, there have been six different winners including: Darren Miller, Brian Birkhofer, Dale McDowell, Don O’Neal, Jimmy Owens and last years winner Steve Francis. The event Saturday at Lawrenceburg Speedway will be taped by the award winning, Lucas Oil Production Studios, to be aired on MAVTV later this year.

Saturday’s event at Lawrenceburg Speedway will include LOLMDS Hot-Laps, Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-mains and a 50-Lap $10,000 to win feature event. The Budweiser Modified division will run as a support class to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN will lead the stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series into TN Thursday. Owens, the defending LOLMDS Champion, leads the series with the most wins with eight in 2014 and sits atop the series championship point standings. Don O’Neal currently sits in second, followed by Scott Bloomquist, Steve Francis and Eddie Carrier Jr., who round out the top five in the championship point standings. Jason Hughes leads the chase for the 2014 Dunn-Benson Ford Rookie of the Year title over Jason Papich.
