CALVERT CITY, Kentucky – Nick Hoffman got his second $4,000 victory of the month in the 35-lap Modified feature Saturday night at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway.

The second- and third-place positions are unofficial, pending the results of tests of samples taken from the tires of cars driven by Trent Young and Tyler Nicely in post-race inspection.

Hoffman, an Illinois native, races out of Mooresville, North Carolina, for benefactor Carl Edwards as a Roush Racing developmental driver. He ended a winning streak by Matt Mevert when he won on Aug. 3 in his second visit to KLMS.

Saturday night, he overhauled Young, a Hopkinsville, Kentucky, driver who has won five features at the 3/8-mile dirt oval this year, and went on to record his second win. Like his benefactor Edwards, he celebrated with a backflip off the left front wheel of his car.

Josh Tomlin led the first five laps from the pole before Young claimed the lead in a tight three-way battle. Young sprinted around the outside of Tomlin on a restart on lap 6, and three laps later, Hoffman moved into second place. Hoffman moved underneath Young coming off Turn 2 of the 22nd lap and led the rest of the way.

Young and Nicely followed Hoffman to the checkered flag. Tomlin was fourth and Mevert, who won in his first three visits to the track, had to settle for fifth.

Other winners on the evening included Benton, Kentucky, drivers Tim Brown in Late Model and Tait Davenport in Pro (Crate) Late Model, plus Mike Lentz of Herrin, Illinois, in Stock Car.

Davenport became the track’s winningest driver in a single division with his sixth feature victory. Five-time winners include Tanner English in Late Model, with a single win in Crate Late Model; Young in Modified; Walston in Crate; and Mike Hodges in Stock Car.

Brown and Lentz each have three feature victories.

The program was run despite a threat of rain and thunderstorms and on a track that was softened by rain earlier in the day.
