Banner, IL-August 31, 2014- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series concluded its Land of Lincoln Triple Shot weekend on Sunday evening at Spoon River Speedway in Banner, IL for the 24th Annual Modified Fall Nationals and Jacob Poel of Spring Lake, MI would take his third series win of the season and a $5,000 payday in an event that featured four different leaders. Poel grabbed the win behind the wheel of his Lakeshore Custom Services/Gilboe’s Lock and Safe/Racing411.net/King Motorsports/Poel’s Blueberry/All Star Performance/Sweet Manufacturing sponsored #82 Rocket by Ruhlman Race Car powered by a Rhyne Race Engine.

Mike Harrison would take the lead at the drop of the green flag and would lead the event until the first caution flew on lap 6 for a spin by David McWilliams in turn three. On the restart, Chad Kinder would work past Harrison for the lead, with Matt Mevert also working past. The front trio of Kinder, Mevert, and Poel would work the bottom, while Harrison would begin to charge the topside from his fourth spot and run down Poel and Mevert. This trio would go three-wide for second on lap 21 before Poel would charge out of that pack and work beneath Kinder for the lead on lap 23. The caution would wave again on lap 26 as Steven Brooks would go over the banking in turn four. This restart would see Jeff Leka work his way into the top five, as Poel would put some distance between himself the pair of Kinder and Harrison. Leka would join the battle for second and they would go three-wide for the spot until the final caution waved on lap 33 for Tanner Wilson, who had went over the turn four banking. The restart would see Leka go from fourth to first with a daring move through the middle of turns one and turn and take the lead, only to have Poel challenge him and retake the lead on lap 37. Poel would pull away a bit from Leka and Harrison, who would battle for second the remainder of the event, to take the win. Harrison and Leka would trade the second spot three times in the final lap, with Leka nipping Harrison for the position, with Kinder and Mevert completing the top five.

The remainder of the top ten at the completion of the Modified Fall Nationals would be Jeff Curl, Mike Chasteen, Jr., 20th starting Austin May, Allen Weisser, and Bobby Allen. The 50 lap, $5,000 to win event would be slowed by three caution periods.

In preliminary action, Jeff Curl would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among a field of 45 entries at 15.154 seconds. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Mike Harrison, while Allen Weisser scored the win in Wiles Driveshafts heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Chad Kinder, with Matt Mevert winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. Brandon Roberts and Ray Bollinger would win the Stealth Racewear B-Mains, while series provisional starting positions went to Brian Shaw and David McWilliams, with track provisionals going to Dale Munson and Donovan Lodge.

The next event for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series will be on Saturday September 13 at Western Kentucky Speedway in Nebo, KY. The race will be 40 laps in distance and pay $5,000 to win and $250 to start.
