quincy 2014Gordy Gundaker, Michael Long, Abe Huls, Joey Gower and Austin Bercerra all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday September 7 during Poage Auto Plaza Night at the Races.

Gordy Gundaker picked up his second feature event win in the Kick Start UMP Super Late Model feature event. Gundaker battled with Mark Burgtorf, Denny Woodworth and Jason Perry throughout the thirty lap feature event and had Jason Perry grab the lead away from lap 14 through lap 20 but a caution flag on lap 20 proved to be Perry’s undoing as the right rear tire went down during the yellow flag giving the lead back to Gundaker. Gundaker held off a hard charging Denny Woodworth to take the win with Woodworth settling for second followed by Mark Burgtorf in third, Jamie Wilson in fourth and Trace Westling in fifth. Gundaker and Burgtorf were the heat race winners. The chase to the 2014 Kick Start UMP Super Late Model Track Championship is now a one point margin  going into the Season Championship this next Sunday with Burgtorf holding a slim one point advantage over Woodworth.

Michael Long claimed the feature event win in the Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event but it was a real battle between him, Bryan Lynn and Kenny Wallace to the checkered flag. Long took the early lead but gave up the top spot on a restart to Lynn who commanded the lead in the high groove until Long make the bottom line work coming off turn four on the fifteenth lap. Long then held off Kenny Wallace to the checkered flag with Wallace settling for second followed by Lynn in third, Jared Schlipman in fourth and Shawn Deering in fifth. Long and Lynn were the heat race winners. Long’s win along with the early departure of Steven DeLonjay with engine problems brought Long to within two points DeLonjay in the points battle for the 2014 Track Championship going into the final points night of racing next week.

Abe Huls kept an ill handling race car in the lead to take the feature event win in the Powder Coat Plus Stock Car division. Huls topped Beau Taylor in second, Terry Houston in third, Brandon Savage in fourth and Jake Powers in fifth. Jake Powers took the heat race win.

Joey Gower took the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center SportMod main event after leader Kevin Morrow dropped out of the event on the fifthteenth lap. Gower held off Vance Wilson for the win followed by Tony Dunker in third, Brandon Dale in fourth and Brandon Lennox in fifth. Dunker, Lennox and Patrick Phillips were the heat race winners while Craig Brooks took the B-Main win.

Austen Bercerra claimed yet another feature event win in the Sport Compact division holding back Kimberly Abbott in second, Brandon Lambert in third, Pat Dunker in fourth and Spencer Coats in fifth.
