(Warrensburg, MO)  On a cool late summer evening, 90 drivers checked in for competition at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) as the season continues to wind down.  When the night concluded, one driver added his name to the winners list for the first time this year as Tyler Schmidt of Easton, Kansas dominated the 25-lap USRA ‘mighty modified’ main event.

The night began with the Pure Stock division competing in one heat race where Bobby Brown from Presott, Kansas drove to the win over Darrin Christy and Lee Roy Morrison, Jr.

For the 29 B-Mods on hand, four heat races were contested to sort out the main event.  Driving to victories were Dean Wille of Warrensburg ahead of Cody Frazon in heat one, Jacob Ebert of Oak Grove ahead of Darin Claxton in heat two, Bobby Maggard of Springfield, Missouri claimed the win over Jeff Douty in heat three, while the heat race went to Derek Watson of Springfield over Dallas White.

The ULMA Late Models made their final 2014 appearance at CMS Saturday with 16 drivers on hand for a pair of heat races and a 20-lap main event.  Heat race victories went to Jon Binning of Warrensburg, Missouri over Justin Russell and Jimmy Jobe.  The second heat race went to Jason Bodenhamer of Centerview who bested Todd McCoin and overall ULMA point leader, Dwight Niehoff.

The Street Stocks produced another solid field of 16 cars for a pair of heat races in which Clayton Campbell of Otterville, Missouri drove to the win in heat race one ahead of Jay Prevete and Jermiah Wilson. Eight-time main event winner Brett Wood of Warrensburg claimed the second heat race by crossing the line ahead of John Clancy Jr. and Allen Perryman.

The final class to complete their heat races of the night was USRA Modifieds. For heat race one, Jim Moody of Odessa, Missouri picked up the win over Tim Karrick.  Heat number two went to Tyler Schmidt over Gunner Martin, with heat three going to Robbie Read of Mexico, Missouri over Dean Wille. Eddie Bray Jr., of Archie, Missouri crossed the line ahead of road-course racer Ron Keith to take the win in the final heat race.

Pole-sitter Bobby Brown took the initial green flag at the start of the 10-lap Pure Stock feature event. However, it didn’t take long for multiple-time feature winner Darrin Christy to make his way to the front of the field.  Current point leader, LeRoy Morrison Jr. kept his 50jr car up front throughout the event as Matt McCord also found his way inside the top five.  In the end, Christy went on to capture the main event as Morrison finished a strong second followed by Brown, sixth-starting McCord was fourth with Michael Fleener in fifth.

For the B-mods, it was Dean Wille and Derek Watson lining up on the front row with Jacob Ebert and Bobby Maggard just behind at the start of the main event.  As he’s done multiple times this season, point leader Wille quickly powered his way to the lead with Ebert in tow.  Ultimately, Wille once again prevailed over the field to capture yet another victory on the season. Former champion Ebert finished second followed by Watson, Cody Frazon, Dallas White, and Robert Baltzell.

At the drop of the green flag for the 20-lap ULMA Late Model feature race, Jon Binning and Jason Bodenhamer brought the field into turn one from row one.  Bodenhamer grabbed the initial race lead in search of his second CMS late model win of the year.  Three-time CMS feature winner Binning worked hard to stay close to the leader in the early stages while third-starting Justin Russell, making his first appearance at CMS this year, started third but ultimately slipped to sixth in the final run down.

Bodenhamer went on to capture his victory as Binning was unable to make a challenge finishing second.  Fourth-starting Todd McCoin netted a podium finish in third while Layne Ehlert rocketed from his tenth-starting position for a strong fourth in the final placement while Dwight Niehoff, who ran inside the top three earlier in the race, settled for fifth.

In the Street Stock main event, Clayton Campbell and Brett Wood occupied the front two starting positions.  Both previous feature winners raced hard to gain the early advantage while fifth-starting John Clancy, Jr., quickly established himself as serious threat for the win.  At the conclusion of the 15-lap feature event, Campbell went on to take the checkers by holding off a hard-charging Clancy for the win.  Wood slipped one position to finish third while Jermiah Wilson came away fourth ahead of Allen Perryman in fifth, with Jay Prevete sixth.

The always stout field of ‘mighty modifieds’ rounded out the night’s action with an action-packed 25-lap main event.  Tyler Schmidt started on the pole and although he was scheduled to start second, Jim Moody was unable to make the call due to mechanical problems. Gunner Martin and Ron Keith ran strong in their heat races to secure solid starting positions behind Schmidt.

Although the field was deep with talent, including the likes of John Allen, USRA Points leader Terry Schultz, two-time track champion Aaron Marrant, and veteran driver Rick Beebe , Schmidt was on a mission and seemed unstoppable in capturing the $1,000-to-win main event.

Eighth-starting Tim Karrick recorded his best CMS feature finish of the year in second.  Ninth-starting Matt Johnson also advanced through the field to claim third while 15th-starting Jason Bodenhamer continued his successful night by claiming fourth while Gunner Martin slipped to fifth, Robbie Reed rounded out the top six.

Next Saturday, September 13 is the final night of action at CMS for 2014. Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, B-Mods, and USRA Modifieds will be in action; however, the field for the USRA Modifieds is already set from the Labor Day Weekend postponed race.
