kentucky-lake-motor-speedwayCALVERT CITY, Kentucky – Billy Moyer Jr. was gunning for a fourth Late Model feature victory in four tries this year at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway Saturday night, but it was his dad and namesake, the dirt track legend from Batesville, Arkansas, who got the victory.

Billy Sr. led from start to finish in the 35-lap main event and claimed $3,000 prize money. His son never had a chance at the big money after the engine in his car failed while he was leading the second heat race.

Chase Estes also won a special event, a 25-lap Stock Car main paying $1,500 to the winner.

Other winners on the program included Bryce Jewell, who got his first Modified win of the year at KLMS, and Jeff Walston, who won for the sixth time in Pro (Crate) Late Model action.

Moyer, who set fast time with a best lap of 14.323 seconds, jumped into the lead at the start and ran all 35 green-flap laps at quicker than 16 seconds to take the win over Rodney Melvin. Jason Riggs was third, Dane Dacus fourth and local drivers Tanner and Terry English, son and father from Benton, Kentucky, were fifth and sixth.

In the stock car feature, Estes overtook pole starter Tya Cunningham on the 15th lap after a 10-lap fight and went on to the checkered flag. Cunningham was second, followed by Mike Hodges, Kassidi Gibbs and Mike Lentz.

In the Modified main, Jewell survived a tangle with a lapped car on the seventh lap that allowed J.R. Mason to slip past into first place. Jewell was able to regain command two laps later, and with two laps to go, Mason hit the Turn 3 wall and was eliminated. Jeff Elliott took second, followed by Todd Riley, Wally Walker and Dustin Rollins.

Walston also led flag-to-flag in the Crate feature, pulling away from an early challenge from Troy English. English finished second, followed by Jeff Glisson, Matt Filkins and Neal Neisler.
