kentucky-lake-motor-speedwayCALVERT CITY, Kentucky – After a string of 13 programs with high-dollar payoffs in one or more divisions, Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway returned to its regular weekly card Saturday night, with Tim Brown, Jeff Elliott, Jeff Walston and Kassidi Gibbs getting feature victories.

Brown, of Benton, Kentucky, won his fourth victory in the Late Model division and Walston, of Paducah, Kentucky, won for the second time in a row and became the first driver to reach seven victories in the Pro (Crate) Late Model division.

Elliott, of Mayfield, Kentucky, and Gibbs, of Paducah, Kentucky, each won for the first time at KLMS this season, Elliott in Modified and Gibbs in Stock Car.

The evening featured the smallest car-count of the 20 nights of racing at the track this year, with 28 in the four divisions. But drivers put on an entertaining show.

The best was in the Stock Car main event, in which Gibbs led from the start until the final lap, when Mike Hodges charged underneath her in Turns 3-4, with a slide job that put his car in front. But Gibbs used a crossover move to cut back underneath Hodges and beat him to the finish line by a half-car length. Mike Lentz was close behind in third.

It was the first victory of the year at KLMS for Gibbs, a 20-year-old who began racing in 4-cylinder subcompacts at Paducah International Raceway in 2009 and moved up to Street Stocks/Stock Cars in 2011. She has one victory this year at Paducah and has been in contention on numerous occasions in races at KLMS.

In Late Model, Brown dueled for second place with six-time winner Randy Sellars while Dewayne Kiefer led the first nine laps, then caught up with Kiefer and passed him on the inside coming off Turn 4 of the ninth lap.

On the next-to-last lap, Sellars also got past Kiefer for second. Austin Rettig rounded out the four-car field.

Elliott and Walston led from start to finish in their races. The scrambles for positions behind the winners were hard fought.

Corey Kellems and Steve Ladd were the survivors of wheel-banging action in the Modified pack, with a tangle that nearly took out Ladd eliminating Jeff Parks, who was unable to avoid the car of J.R. Mason when mechanical failure caused Mason to lose power as the green flag waved for a restart. Ladd managed to muscle his way past the cars of Mason and Parks, who were both sidelined.

Kevin Poole ended up second in the in the Crate main, with Jeff Glisson rallying from the back of the eight-car pack after an early incident knocked him out of second place.
