tri-state-speedway    Haubstadt, IN – September 27, 2014 –  Kyle Cummins of Princeton, IN, captured the feature event held for the MSCS Sprint Cars Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway.  Cummins led all 25 laps with a strong run from the outside pole position to take the $2,000 top prize.

Three other drivers took turns in presenting a race long challenge.

Carson Short lost the second spot to Shane Cockrum and by lap six Brady Short overtook them both and would be the driver faced with the task of chasing Cummins down.  Cummins was fast and kept the advantage after a restart following a debris caution with just 9 laps to go.  Carson Short retook the third spot dropping Cockrum back to fourth.  Rookie Aaron Farney picked up the fifth spot.

With the appearance, heat race win, and feature victory, Kyle Cummins locked up the Hoosier Tire Midwest Championship two weeks early.  The accomplishment tops the series record book.  Kyle Cummins became the first driver to collect four MSCS titles.  In victory lane he was both relieved and excited.  “I never would have believed it.  The car was great!”  He thanked the sponsors on the car including Vincennes University, ReMax Midwest, Greenwell Auto Body, and CRE.  “It feels good to take home the trophy!”

The Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race was Donny Brackett.  Brackett finished sixth after starting fourteenth.  Only five starters gained positions in a feature run under mostly green flag conditions.  Brandon Mattox was seventh followed by second heat winner Hud Cone, Chris Babcock, and James Lyerla.  The Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award was awarded to Daylan Chambers by virtue of his eleventh place finish.

The UMP Modified division feature was first on the program after intermission.  Trent Young of Madisonville, KY, had the difficult task of holding off Levi Kissinger.  Kissinger closed in during the final laps but Young held on to take his first win this season.

“This win has been a long time coming.  The last time I won here was at the opener 2 years ago.  Levi was probably the faster car.  But I got the preferred line early.  That’s what it took to beat him.”

Dave Beck, Brandon McDowell, and Zach Fair rounded out the top five for the modified feature.  Young, Mark Lamont, and Kissinger won the three heat races.  Kenny Schrader won the B Main.  Lamont was involved in a first lap mishap that brought out the only caution light during the feature to eliminate three cars.

The Sunoco American Late Model Series closed out the triple header with veteran Randy Korte of Highland, IL, winning the feature and the

$2,000 top prize.  The race was likely Korte’s last appearance at the speedway in that he has announced plans to retire from the sport after this season.  Rodney Melvin, Dillan White, Frankie Martin, and Jason Riggs rounded out the top five.  Melvin and Korte won the two heat races.  During the feature the late models took the preferred line to the top of the track and completed their green flag run in record time.

One race remains on the schedule for the MSCS Sprints and Tri-State Speedway.  That event is the annual Harvest Cup to be held on Saturday October 11th this season.  The sprints will be racing for $4,000 to win.  The UMP Modifieds will be racing for $1,000 to win.

This year fans can also enjoy watching the MMSA & MALS Lighting Mini Sprints as they have been added to the show.
