Lucas Lee wins K&N Filters USCS MOD Cotton Boll Cup 2014 $2,000 Final at Poplar Bluff

Poplar Bluff, MO – October 18, 2014 – K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Series points leader Lucas Lee from Paris, Tennessee charged past early race leader Robby Arnold from Paragould, Arkansas on lap 28 of the 30-lap contest to take home the $2000 top prize in the 14th annual Cotton Boll Cup at Poplar Bluff Speedway on Saturday night. Lee, who started third in the main event, after winning the www.rockauto.com qualifying heat #3 on Friday night bested a strong field of 36 open wheel modified entries from three states to take home the top prize and his first K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Series win of the 2014 season at the 3/8 mile speed plant.

Arnold who started outside the front row next to K&N Filters Pole Position starter Rustin Miller from Houston, Missouri jumped into the lead in turn one of the race after two restarts. He then led the first 27 laps while dueling side by side with Lee for five laps before giving up the point to the West Tennessean. Arnold then held on to finish in the runner-up spot. He was followed across the finish line by Truman, Arkansas’ Scott Crites in the K&N Filters Podium Award third place. Rustin Miller, who was the defending Cotton Boll Cup Champion, finished fourth. Dyersburg, Tennessee resident, Preston Seratt, who trails Lee in second place in the series’ point standings, rounded out the top five after starting in eighth position.

Billy Smith from Desloge, Missouri headed the next group in sixth place. Urbana. Missouri’s, Terry Kirk, who started twenty-third in the 25 car main event field, followed Smith across the finish line in seventh place. The 2011 Cotton Boll Cup Champion, Shane Akin from Medina, Tennessee finished in eighth place this time around. Tyson Franks from Batesville, Arkansas started nineteenth and advanced ten places to finish in ninth place. Mark Todd, from Jackson, Missouri, started in the 25th and final starting position and charged fifteen places forward to finish in the tenth position.

On Saturday night the final A-Main field was set via two B-Main/Last Chance races. Cape Girardeau, Missouri Modified driver Josh Sissom won the Wilwood Disc Brakes B-Main #1 and former Malden Speedway track Champion, Paul Reeder won the Aero Race Wheels B-Main #2. Terry Kirk started the A-Main in 23rd position and raced forward 16 positions to garner the Comp Cams Hard Charger Award for his efforts.

The next K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Series events will be during the 6th annual USCS Fall Nationals at historic Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas on Friday, October 31st and Saturday, November 1st. The K&N USCS Mods will contest as in past years during that event, two separate race nights of competition with each main event paying $1000 to win and $100 to last place in the main event. The entry fee is $50 per night. A pre-entry fee of $80 for both nights is available prior to the event if received by Monday, October 27th at Midnight.
