American Modified SeriesUnion, KY-October 25, 2014- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series concluded its 2014 season with the tour’s 5th Annual Season Championship event at Florence Speedway in Union, KY and Josh Rice would collect the $5,000 payday and became the tenth different winner as the tour concluded its 2014 season. Rice’s victory would come in the Jerry Rice owned Sunesis Construction/Kuzman Racing/Rice’s Auto Body/Valor Motorsports/Extreme Sportswear/DeCal Designs/Alexander Safety Solutions sponsored #11 Impressive Race Car, sporting Jay Dickens power under the hood. The win by Rice also made him the 28th different winner in series history and he is also the youngest series winner ever at 16 years and four months of age.

Josh Rice would take the lead at the start of the event, with Jeff Babcock and Kent Robinson giving chase. Action slowed on lap 3 for a tangle between Jeff Curl and Andrew Corbin in turn one. The restart would get wild as the field came to complete lap 4, some cars got tangled up around the sixth spot and an eleven car melee ensued entering turn one that would see the red flag be displayed, with the cars o Michael England, Aaron Scott, Elliott Despain, Victor Lee, Matt Hamilton, Larry Pickelheimer, Jr., Jeff Curl, and David Spille not able to continue. With the field thinned out somewhat, the restart would see Robinson slidejob by Rice in turn two, but Rice returned the favor in turn three and Robinson would end up looping his machine and collecting Bryan Barber in the process in turn four. When racing resumed, Rice began to motor away from the field, while 16th starting Devin Gilpin and Brian Shaw would have the best battle inside the top five going at the halfway point. As Rice began to lap slower traffic, disaster almost struck him when he contacted a slower car, but the caution would wave as Kyle Schoernick would slow on the backchute. The restart would see Jacob Hawkins and Scott James tangle in turn four, but the final nine circuits would go caution free, with Rice motoring away to the win, with Gilpin taking runner-up honors. Babcock would finish third, while 14th starting Nick Hoffman and 15th starting Jacob Poel completed the top five.

The remainder of the top ten at the completion of the 5th Annual Season Championship A-Main would be Earl Plessinger, Shaw, James, Hawkins, and Josh Tomlin. The 40 lap, $5,000 to win event would be slowed by five caution periods, one resulting in a red flag.

In preliminary action, Bryan Barber would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among a season-high field of 70 entries at 17.407 seconds. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Kent Robinson, while Aaron Scott scored the win in Wiles Driveshafts heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Michael England, with Josh Rice winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. Jeff Babcock scored the win in Summit Racing Equipment heat five, while Brian Shaw would win Wiles Driveshafts heat race six. The Stealth Racewear B-Mains were captured by David Webb and Matt Hamilton. Jeff Curl and Victor Lee were series provisional starters, while Larry Pickelheimer, Jr. was the track provisional starter. Jeff Curl of Forrest, IL is the 2014 Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series champion.
