Inaugural Renegades of Dirt South Tour debut finishes with a Blockbuster Photo Finish at Thursday’s Winter Freeze V
**Dale Mathison in his 1st Renegades of Dirt debut was able to make history taking the 1st South Modified Tour win for the series over David Stremme by 0.074 seconds margin of victory at Screven Motorsports Complex Thursday Night.**
(Sylvania, Georgia) The winter months still remaining for six more weeks cause the groundhog didn’t see his shadow February 2nd didn’t stop Winter Freeze V Thursday action from kicking into high gear. Thrity Six teams from nine states embarked on the 3/8th mile clay facility nestled off Hwy. 21 in Sylvania, Georgia for the continuation of the 5th installment of the “winter racing extravaganza”.
The Renegades of Dirt South Modified Tour presented by Arizona Sport Shirts we’re pumped up and ready to shine after Wednesday’s Twin $750 shows we’re halted due to weather. On a frigid night in Georgia the first race was decided by inches between Minnesota’s Dale Mathison and runner up North Carolina’s Chris Parker in what came down to a thrilling 30 lap $1,500 to feature that had it all and more leaving fans in awe of what they witnessed.
The race started with a sequence of repeated multi car incidents. Hiccups on the restart would cause the yellow to come out again repeatedly after drivers we’re trying to handle the new track conditions that we’re meant to to be different after Tuesday’s practice being a success. The races all across the board offered three, four and even five wide excitement as the “Renegades Elite” tamed the 3/8th mile surface from top to bottom. Mathison in the #9m would jump out to the early lead with #35 David Stremme, #X Chris Parker, #4 DJ Cline and #91 Derrick Ramey all in hot pursuit.
After the sequence of yellow flag fever flourishing the drivers took it home for a twenty eight lap run to the checkers of fully fledged chaos that didn’t disappoint a soul at the complex. By halfway Stremme was trailing Mathison by half a straightaway however lap cars pinched the Mathison entry down and Stremme in the Lethal Chassis house car was able to close in to “sneak and slither” the lead for a bit. However Mathison wouldn’t back down and with the final ten laps they we’re door to door to the checkers by inches off turn four the crowd witnessed Mathison take the win over Stremme with margin of victory 0.074 seconds at the stripe. Mathison never competed with the Renegades Tour until Thursday but enjoyed it making history in his 1st career start with the 1st ever victory for the NEW Renegades of Dirt South Modified Tour at Screven Motorsports Complex.
