USMTS-United-States-Modified-Touring-SeriesGOLIAD, Texas (Feb. 6) — Shady Oaks Speedway is proud to announce their season opener will be Feb. 12-14 featuring the well-respected and exciting United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) at their track in Goliad, Texas.

This unprecedented move and inaugural race at the beautiful and historic speedway came just hours after the South Texas Speedway in Corpus Christi was forced to cancel the event due to a structural failure of the back wall caused by excessive rainfall.

“Everything happened very fast after South Texas Speedway was forced to cancel the event. We know it was a hard decision on their part, but the right one,” said Shady Oaks Speedway co-owner Bobby Stacy. “With the cancellation, we are given the opportunity to show the community of both racers and fans what an incredible facility we have and the ability to handle the influx of cars and fans that attend shows run by the USMTS. We are flattered and honored to be a part of this momentous decision, and we accept the challenge of pulling together a three day event in only nine days.”

Shady Oaks Speedway is nestled just six miles from the historic town of Goliad, just 30 miles away from Victoria and 1.5 hours east of San Antonio.

“We anticipate large crowds coming from one to two hours away for this race. The long range weather forecast looks perfect, and many fans are excited to get back to racing after a seasonal lull. Our track is like a huge gift, just waiting to be opened. Our facilities are immaculate, the track is being prepped as we speak, and we are stocking up on everything, and a few surprises and giveaways to treat our fans-new and long-time supporters-to a special Valentine’s Day weekend of incredibly fast racing,” said Shady Oaks co-owner Rosemary Stacy.

“The support from the community has been overwhelming. We even have a hashtag (#teamshadyoaks and #packthehouse) on Facebook from loyal fans as far away as Corpus Christi,” said Kevin Stacy.

Rosemary Stacy reached out to Humpy Wheeler, veteran NASCAR promoter and now Chairman of Speedway Benefits-a marketing alliance of 350 grassroots racetracks throughout North America that provides consultation and buying power for tracks such as Shady Oaks-for advice.

“I believe in the power of grassroots racing, the fans, their passion and the ability for promoters and owners such as Bobby and Rosemary Stacy to do whatever it takes to treat fans to an incredible racing experience, no matter what the challenges,” said Wheeler. “We are pulling our resources together for marketing, exposure and tactical guidance to help the Stacys get the word out surrounding this momentous occasion.”

The USMTS will be making its first-ever trip to the 1/3-mile high-banked dirt oval for three thrilling nights on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-14.

The first of four straight three-night affairs will open the MVT Gulf Coast Border Region presented by Day Motor Sports with $2,000 to win Thursday, $3,000 to win Friday and $4,000 to win Saturday.

Racing starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Saturday’s show gets underway at 6 p.m.

Spectator tickets are $20 on Friday and Saturday, and just $15 on Thursday. Kids ages 12 and under get in for free each night. Pit passes are $35 Thursday and Friday, $40 on Saturday. Kids ages 6 and under get into the pits for free each day. Tickets will be available for purchase at the track.

The track will also host an open practice on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Tickets will be free in the grandstands and $20 pits for open practice.

Limited Mods and Street Stocks will serve as support classes for the Shady Oaks Speedway event.
