Speed lovers can compete to beat celebrity speed times including baseball great Jim Edmonds, former Indy driver Robby McGehee, local NASCAR Truck Drivers Justin Jennings and Tyler Tanner, and KSDK’s Sara Dayley.
What: Don’t just watch the action this weekend. Get in the action! Gateway Motorsports Park will host the grand opening of the new Kartplex located in the center of the NASCAR Speedway. The Gateway Motorsports Park Kartplex is a nationally-sanctioned kart racing facility for professional and amateur karting as well as individuals and special events groups. The Gateway Kartplex includes a ½ mile, 12-turn road course with rental karts and on-site storage for drivers with their own karts.
The Kartplex offers a true, high-end international-style competitive karting experience for people ages 12 and over (these are not amusement-park karts). From introductory classes to championship race series, the Gateway MSP Kartplex offers a wide range of programs for all who have a need for speed. The facility features karts manufactured by Margay Racing in St. Louis that exceed speeds of 60 mph. This is a one-of-a-kind experience only Gateway Motorsports Park can offer.
Prior to the official grand opening event on April 18th, the Kartplex track has been open to the public and for companies interested in a unique team building and entertainment venue. The track is now fully open seven days a week pending weather closures.
The grand opening event is full of fun, entertainment, food, music and prizes. The track is hosting a “Beat the Celebrities” competition where Karplex drivers will have the opportunity to beat the posted times of St. Louis celebrities for a chance to win prizes. Drivers can enjoy the track for the month of April and participate in this competition. Some celebrities scheduled to be on hand for the ribbon cutting include former Cardinal baseball great Jim Edmonds, former Indy driver Robby McGehee, local NASCAR drivers Justin Jennings and Tyler Tanner, and KSDK’s Sara Dayley.
