Brad Loyet – Staying Close to Home!

Brad-Loyet-300x178(Bill W) May 19, 2015 – With the weather as unpredictable as possible, the Loyet Motorsports/Vacuworx Global #o5 team played it safe last weekend. Their Friday plans were washed away in Jacksonville, Illinois, and a sketchy forecast for Wilmot, Wisconsin kept them from making that trek as well. So, they stayed closer to home at the St. Francois County Raceway near Farmington, Missouri Saturday. The result was a second place finish, and a few more laps before the FVP National Sprint League visits the unique 3/8-mile oval on May 28. This weekend, the Sunset Hills, Missouri driver goes down the road to run I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri on Saturday, and Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Illinois Sunday with the MOWA series.

The staff at SFCR did a good job getting their event in on Saturday. “We had a good share of rain Friday night and Saturday morning,” says Brad. “The track really worked hard to get everything ready to go so we could race. It ended up being really heavy, and pretty narrow, but we were able to race.”

Starting fourth in his heat, he would checker third. “We had a pretty good car, but it was a deal where we just had to get in line and finish,” says Brad. “We finished third and missed the Dash, but that put us in row four for the feature.”

He would start the main event eighth. “In the feature, the track hadn’t widened much,” says Brad. “We had a good car and got to third really quickly. We ran there pretty much the whole race. I was being held up, and I could have forced the issue a little bit for second, but we didn’t want to take that chance.”

Brad would get to second and run down leader, Joey Montgomery. “I was able to get to second with about five laps to go,” he says. “We were able to run the leader down, and coming to the checkered, he ran into a lapped car and knocked the front end down. I felt we had a shot at him, but he was just able to get across the line. We could have used one more lap.”

Racing at Farmington should prepare the team well for the NSL stop next Thursday. “After the big crash at Knoxville, we had a whole new car,” says Brad. “It was the first night out, and we wanted to make sure the car was working o.k. It worked really, really well, and the NSL show is there next week. We’ve run well there running first (later DQed for the wrong tire) and second. A qualifying format will be interesting there, and I’m looking forward to it.”

The Memorial Day weekend could see as many as three shows for the team. “We’re planning on running the two MOWA shows for sure at Pevely on Saturday and Quincy on Sunday,” says Brad. “We may run with the Outlaws on Monday at Lawrenceburg, but we’ll see.”
