DIRTcar Summer Nationals Haubstadt, IN – June 30, 2015 – It happens just once a year and it happens all over the Midwest. That would be the annual outbreak of the hottest auto racing anywhere in the whole country. There are 28 big late model events in some 31 days. Event number 22 will be held at Tri-State Speedway. This one is not forecast but scheduled.

Sunday July 5th the Dirt Car UMP Summernationals will be at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. This race kicks off the final week of the tour. The heartiest of the county’s late model drivers will be at the quarter mile track to compete for top prize money of $5,000 and the Summer Nationals Points Title.

Points will be subject to change with racing throughout the remainder of this week. Every day’s race results will become a factor. Bobby Pierce of Danville, IL, leads the Summernationals standings as the series closes out the July portion of the schedule. The top five are all very familiar names to Midwest race fans. Billy Moyer Jr. is second followed by defending champion Shannon Babb, Ryan Unzicker, and 2010 champ Jason Feger. The top four have posted totals with only 100 points separating them.

Pierce and Moyer are next generation drivers looking for their first Summernational titles. Their fathers are both former Summernational Title Holders. The entire top twenty reveals how talented the drivers are following the series. Billy Moyer is included in that list along with Dennis Erb Jr. and Kevin Weaver Dennis Erb won three Summernational titles in a row between 2007 and 2009. Billy Moyer has in all six titles to his credit. He won last year’s event at Tri-State Speedway. Kevin Weaver is also a prior champion.

The first ten races that could be completed this year has produced eight different winners. One of the fresh faces competing very well this season is Levi Kissinger of Mt. Vernon, IN. Kissinger is in the top fifteen. He won the feature at Clarksville Speedway on June 25th. Last year Tri-State Speedway fans watched him compete regularly in the UMP Modified ranks. He won five modified features in 2014 at the track including a streak of three in a row late in the season.

The UMP Open Wheel Modifieds will also be competing on Sunday nights race card. This race is the second of the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals to be held at the speedway this season. The purse will pay $1,000 to win. Last year traveling driver Jacob Poel of Spring Lake, Michigan, outran the very best of the area’s local racers to win the feature. Forty-five modified cars were on hand continuing a trend that had produced 48 entries the year before.

Mike Harrison won this event in 2013 and lead a portion of last year’s feature event.

This is a colorful and exciting outing for a family to wrap up the 4th of July Holiday weekend. Racing begins at 7:30 P.M. Hot laps and qualifications are an hour earlier. Sprint cars will return to the speedway on Saturday July 18th. That event is set to be the final night for Indiana Sprint Week and will feature the USAC Sprint Cars plus the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds.
