Lucas Cattle Company ULMA drivers searching for additional starts this year to count towards their 15 best points-earning nights of the season competed in a pair of events last weekend at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri and at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.

At Callaway Raceway last Friday, the track hosted what seemed like a rare night of racing after a total of ten rainouts had plagued the race season up to last week. Just eight drivers were on hand for ULMA action with Vance Wilson and Todd McCoin fighting for the win. At the conclusion of the night Wilson captured his second win of the season and association-leading 39th career victory in ULMA-sanctioned events.

Behind the lead duo were Chris Cox, current ULMA point’s leader Jon Melloway, leading Rookie of the Year candidate Dustin Hodges, Terry Wilson, Ashleee Lancaster, and David Miller. Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri is looking ahead to another week of weekly action on Friday, July 24. For complete results and remaining calendar of events visit www.callawayraceways.com. The raceway is located at 7419 County Road 405 in Fulton, Missouri. Call 573-592-7795 or 573-642-6580 for race day information.

At Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri last Saturday evening, 19 competitors competed throughout the evening in a pair of heat races and the main event. Jon Melloway started out the night with a victory in heat one ahead of a surging Bobby Penney and former track champion Tommy Cordray. After thrashing on his car to be ready on time after a grinding crash a few weeks ago, Jon Binning found his way back to victory lane in heat two by coming to the checkers ahead of Cody Holtkamp and ninth-starting John O’Neal, Jr.

By virtue of advancing six positions in his heat race, O’Neal, a veteran of just about every car class imaginable, started on the pole of the main event in searh of his first-ever ULMA Late Model victory. From the Lucas Oil Speedway weekly press release “Kearney, Missouri’s John O’Neal Jr. scored top honors in just his fifth ever dirt late model start. Payton Looney charged from 20th to second in the caution free main event. Cordray started seventh and worked his way to third at the finish while Bobby Penney started fourth and finished fourth. Lockwood, Missouri’s Dwight Niehoff worked the top shelf to finish in fifth after starting in eighth.” Binning was sixth, followed by Justin Russell, Todd McCoin, Jon Melloway, and Dustin Hodges.

ULMA racing returns to Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, August 1, in Wheatland, Missouri when the track resumes its championship weekly racing series. Find the track online at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

ULMA action resumes at Randolph Count Raceway (RCR) this Saturday, July 25th as the track comes to life once again for weekly event championship racing. RCR is located at 4081 US-24 in Moberly, Missouri. The Track Phone number is 660-833-1727. Visit www.randolphcountyraceway.com for additional information.

Jon Melloway now has 16 starts on the season and is one of the first drivers who will begin to throw out lower points-earning nights along with Chris Cox. In the coming weeks, the standings will likely have significant changes as more and more drivers hit the 15-starts threshold, which is the number of events a driver uses to determine his/her placement in the standings. Melloway leads McCoin, Cox, Hodges and Holtkamp heading into this week’s competition.
