St. Francois County Raceway, Farmington, MO (7-25-15) Raceecap –
50% chance of rain is the most frustrating forecast when it comes to dirt track racing. That’s what we woke up to Saturday morning – cloudy skies and a 50% chance of rain. So, will it or won’t it? Will we race or will we get rained on. Well, Mother Nature may have taken a hint by now, and maybe, just maybe, she knows the ol’ cowboy Brian Blair won’t back down, so rather than causing a ruckus with the weather, she just saddled up and rode on out giving way to clear blue skies, a nice breeze, and a whole lot of fun here at the Fastest Bullring in Missouri!! Some of our future drivers brought their caged race karts out to display and hang out. Gage Montgomery and his #79 Kart, Garrett Ward and his #87, and the #35 of Makenzie Sikes showed off their karts and let other kids sit climb in and check them out while Canyon front-man Matt Pratt performed live music, in what felt like a pre-race party behind the main grandstands.

We welcomed the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series and the POWRi Speedway Motors Outlaw Micro Series this week, as they came and joined the 410 Winged Sprints, who raced for $2,000 to win, and the rest of our regular classes – A Mods, B Mods and Pure Streets.

Last years POWRi Midget A-Main winner Darren Hagen, from Riverside, CA, got there early and brought his trophy from the year before. Armed with that trophy and a sharpie, he made his way over to the main grandstands to hang out with some fans during the pre-race activities, and he found a group of children who were there early and excited about the nights show. Darren signed the trophy and gave it to the kids, and hung out for some pics before heading back to the pit area to prep for the nights events. Maybe that was just good karma, because Darren and his #17 BOSS Chassis picked up the first POWRi Heat Race win, followed by the 57D of Daniel Robinson and BOSS Chassis teammate the 7 of Austin Brown. Heat Race 2 was won by the 55 of Nick Knepper, followed by the 5D of Zach Daum and the 1T of Tony Roney.

The Midget A-Main looked to be a battle between Hagen and Daum, but about half way into the race, Daum’s car began to fade. Hagen had his work cut out for him too, with a hard charging Andrew Felker coming up behind him, and getting a flat right rear tire with 2 laps to go, somehow Darren was able to hold on to it and go on to win over the 11A of Andrew Felker and teammate Austin Brown in the 7. This would be Darren Hagen’s 2nd trip into the grandstands, this time jumping the fence and going up to find a young race fan to give his race gloves to, along with lots of high fives with many fans.

Lots of drivers pulling double duty in many classes. Austin Brown and Tucker Klaasmeyer were a couple of those guys, and driver Joe B. Miller racing in 3 classes was sure to make him sleep well, racing both POWRi classes and the 410 Sprints.

It was a special night for POWRi Speedway Motors Outlaw Micro Series 2014 Rookie of the Year, driver of the Lucas Oil sponsored #9 BOSS Chassis, Austin Stewart, having 4 generations on hand for this race. Driver Austin, Mother Kim Stewart, Grandmother Donna Thomas, and 91 year old Great-Grandmother Dorris Thomas.

Racing in the Micro division had a mix of POWRi Series drivers, and Doe Run Raceway drivers all coming to take a shot at the win. Aaron Andruskevitch (21) was the winner of Micro Heat 1, with the 08c of Allen Cope 2nd, and the 27 of Tucker Klaasmeyer 3rd. Heat Race 2 winner was the 2b of Nathan Benson, followed by the 13k of Chris King and the 3b of Shelby Bosie. Heat Race 3 winner was the 42 of Andy Bishop, followed by the 51b of Joe B. Miller and the 15u of Willie Urish. Nathan Benson went on to win the A-Main over Aaron Andruskevitch, 77w of Joey Wirth, the 3 of Ayrton Gennetten, and 51b of Joe B. Miller.

The 410 Sprint class brought 23 cars to duke it out for the $2,000 check. The #2 of Keith Burch was the winner of the first of three Heat Races, with the 12x of Joey Montgomery in 2nd, and the 7c of Joe B. Miller 3rd. Adam Parmely picked up the win in Heat 2 in his #21p over the 79j of Jacob Patton and the 32 of Tim Montgomery. Dustin Adams saved a wild and scary incident after his right rear tire went flat, causing Dustin to put on an acrobatics clinic down the back straight and up onto the wall. Somehow, he saved it and put his #3 back down on all fours. With lots of damage, the team got to work and got Dustin back out for the A-Main. The third and final Heat Race was won by the o5 of Brad Loyet, followed by the 67 of Joey Boyd and the 97 of Tommy Worley, Jr. The Dash set the first three rows of the A-Main line-up, and that order was 12x Joey Montgomery, 79j Jacob Patton, o5 Brad Loyet, 67 Joey Boyd, 21p Adam Parmely, and 2 Keith Burch. There were 5 more starting positions that would be determined by the B-Main, and those spots went to 88 Jeff Wurst, 35 Tyler Settlemoir, 14t Jimmy Bridgeman, 90 Patrick Budde, and the 9x of Brad Yoder. Joey Montgomery went on to win the A-Main and the $2,000 payday, with Brad Loyet finishing 2nd, Tommy Worley Jr 3rd, Joey Boyd 4th, and Keith Burch 5th.

Brent Thompson won the first of two A-Modified Heats in his familiar #18, with the 25s  of Mike Savage finishing 2nd and the 45 of Matt Dotson 3rd. The 53 of Matt Eaton was the winner of Heat 2, crossing the line before the 36 of Billy Smith and the 26 of Kasey Nations. Nations fought back and won the dash over Dotson, Thompson, Smith, Eaton, and Savage. Nations led the first few laps before his car began to slightly fade, and Thompson got by. At the end of the 20 lapper, it was Thompson in victory lane with Smith 2nd, Eaton 3rd, Nations 4th, and the 717 of Tim Nash in 5th.

In the B-Modified class, it appeared Dusty Homan was getting used to his new #29 car, as he picked up Heat Race 1 win over “The Hustler” Kenny Harris in car 69 and the 70 of Mark Crady. Heat 2 went to the 05 of Mike Savage, with 1 Shane Blair in hot pursuit finishing 2nd and the 3d of Lou Driemeier finishing 3rd. Randy Forster carried the checkers at the end of Heat 3, with the 8 of Shannon Burch 2nd and the 10x of Kyle Jarrett in 3rd. Savage came back and won the Feature over the 4g of Eddie Gross, 29 of Homan, 1 of Blair, and the 69 of Harris.

Ryan Williams got another Heat Race Win in the Pure Street division over the 71 of Joe Merrit and the 81h of Mike Hurst. Jason Neel picked up another Heat Race win as well in his 94 machine, beating out the 43x of Robbie Williams and the 00 of David Baker. Neel also went on to win the Pure Street Feature over Robbie Williams, Mike Hurst, 32 Robert Hicks, and the 00 of David Baker.

It was a fun night of racing, and give-aways included passes to the upcoming Washington County Fair, and 2 pair of tickets to the World of Outlaws Ironman 55 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I55 on Saturday, August 8th, compliments of Ray Marler, Owner and Promoter at I55.

We will be off for the next 2 weeks, with the St. Francois County Fair this week (including ATV & Lawnmower Races on Thursday night, and the Monster Truck Invasion Friday Night),  and the World of Outlaws Ironman 55 next week at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I55. We will be back in action on Saturday August 15th with another $5 Night at the races!! Hope to see you there!! Stay cool!!
