Central Missouri Speedway(Warrensburg, MO) The hot muggy weather did not deter loyal race fans and drivers from the fast-paced race action at Central Missouri Speedway on Saturday night for KMMO 102.9 Radio and Scout race night. Race fans have enjoyed some tight racing the last few weekends and Saturday night was no exception.

Jeremiah Wilson from Concordia grabbed another victory for his fourth Pure Stock feature win of the year. Jacob Ebert from Oak Grove easily repeated in the B-mods for the ninth time this year. Brett Wood from Warrensburg also claimed the Street Stock feature for his ninth win of the year and Terry Schultz from Sedalia racked up his fourth trip to victory lane at CMS with his USRA Modified feature victory.

Pure Stocks started off the weekly heat racing action to place drivers into their feature starting spots with Jimmy Smith claiming the first heat on his first visit to CMS with Jason Ballard and Don Johnson second and third. In heat 2, Jeremiah Wilson easily claimed the win with Rachael Crowder and Jason Cochran trailing.

The Pure Stocks drivers aligned themselves on the starting grid for their 10- lap feature with Smith quickly maneuvering his car into turn two with the early advantage. Wilson stayed side by side and made his move around Smith on the high side in turn four to grab the lead.

Wilson never relinquished the top spot but had to survive through a caution on lap three when Don Johnson departed the track after he tangled with Leroy Morrison in turn two. Wilson firmly maintained his lead and won his fourth feature of the year, Smith followed in second while Jason Ballard had his best finish of the year in third after he passed Morrison who finished fourth on spot ahead of Amanda Sammons.

Another stout field of 19 B-Mod drivers checked in for weekly competition. They competed in three heat races to set their starting spots for the feature event. Jake Richards easily grabbed heat one over Bret Wood and Kameron Grindstaff. Heat two had Jacob Ebert going to the wire for his ninth heat win over Cody Frazon and Dean Truelove. The final heat race saw Chris Brockway drive to the win as he easily advance to the checkers in front of Troy Carlyle and Nic Bennett.

All 19 competitors made their way to the track for their 15-lap event to see if someone could break the hold Jacob Ebert had over the field several times this year. Ebert quickly grabbed the early feature lead as he rolled out of turn two ahead of Brockway and Carlyle with Jake Richards in the mix. Richards suffered a mechanical problem as he said the car just quit on him in the turn one area, with Richards unable to completely leave the race surface a yellow flag slowed the field for a restart.

After a series of early cautions, Ebert continued his dominance and pulled away from the field on the re-starts. Carlyle was in second when he suffered a break down in turn four when his car snapped around facing the wrong direction to end his night. Brett Wood stalked Ebert and put some pressure on him from lap ten to the end of the race but Ebert hung on for his ninth win of the year. With his best B-mod finish of the year Wood came away second followed by Eddie Bray, Jr., Brockway settled for fourth and Nic Bennett rounded out the top five of the night.

Street Stock drivers had another chance to claim a weekly feature and attempt to figure out a way to beat point’s leader Brett Wood with 14 drivers on hand for two heat races. Allen Perryman smoothly drove to victory in heat one over Brian Inlow and Dwayne Mitchell. Brett Wood pulled away and claimed the second heat race ahead of Jay Prevete and Clayton Campbell.

To start the 15-lap main event, Wood shot out on the high side for the early lead with Perryman close by on the low side. Wood began to walk away from the field as Perryman then battled with Prevete for the second spot until Prevete prevailed and maneuvered past him.

On lap seven, Jeremiah Wilson pulled off with mechanical woes with Herb Dannar departing the race soon after. On a lap ten re-start, Prevete made his final attempt to work around Wood, but was denied as Wood claimed his ninth main-event win of the season. Prevete hung onto second with Perryman posting his strongest finish of the year in third. Mr. Consistency this year Troy Turley finished fourth one spot ahead of Clayton Campbell to round out the top five.

Twenty-three USRA Modifieds made their way to CMS for competition in three preliminary heat races to set up the starting grid for the 25-lap, $1,000 to-win feature event. Jason Bodenhamer won in convincing fashion in heat one with Matt Johnson and Eddie Bray, Jr., trailing. Danny Scrogham won in heat two ahead of Richard Layne and Dalton Kirk while the final heat of the night went to Kevin Blackburn, son of former two-time track champion Gary Blackburn, over two of the USRA hot-shoes, Robbie Reed and Terry Schultz.

USRA Modified drivers filed onto the track competing for their 25-lap main event. Scrogham and Bodenhamer led the field to the green out front when Bodenhamer grabbed the lead on lap four. Meanwhile, Blackburn moved into the second spot and by motoring around Bodenhamer for the lead on lap ten.

Terry Schultz snuck up on the leaders and made his move towards the front using the high and middle lanes of the track to grab the lead from Blackburn. Bodenhamer almost lost his third spot when he did a half spin in turn without coming to a complete stop on lap 13. Several drivers had to quickly take evasive action to try and avoid being involved in a multi-car pileup but were unable to avoid contact. Unfortunately, top-five running Matt Johnson’s night came to an end with all other drivers able to continue.

After another lap 13 restart, drivers settled into a groove as Schultz commanded the front of field. Blackburn tagged the wall coming out of turn four and suffered some right side damage late in the race but soldiered on to finish second behind Schultz, who claimed his fourth CMS feature win of the season. Bodenhamer had his strongest run of the year in third with Tim Karrick moving up from twelfth into a fourth place finish while Robbie Reed rounded out the top-five.

Next Saturday, August 15, the B-Mods take the spotlight with a $1,500 to-win track special event. Weekly racing continues in the USRA Modifieds, Pure Stocks and Street Stocks and the ULMA Late Models roll back into CMS for their second-to-last appearance of the year.
