One more week is in the Lucas Cattle Company ULMA history books and just like last week, 21-year old Payton Looney found his way to victory lane once again for his seventh victory of the season and third at Callaway Raceway. He led the entire race distance and dominated all 20 laps of the main event. The Callaway Raceway event was the lone ULMA event of the weekend as wet weather forced officials at Randolph County Raceway to cancel Saturday’s events.

On Friday at Callaway Raceway, Jon Melloway captured the first heat race ahead of Cody Holtcamp and Ryan Middaugh while Payton Looney drove to victory in heat two ahead of Todd McCoin and Justin Russell. A total of 14 cars competed throughout the night.

Looney and Melloway commanded the front row at the start of the main event with McCoin, Holtcamp, Russell, and Middaugh making up rows two and three. Looney quickly shot out to an early race lead using up the high to middle lanes on the track. A caution flag waved on lap two for a quick spin with Looney leading Melloway, McCoin, Russell, and Holtcamp.

Turn three and four proved tricky for some drivers as another quick caution appeared over the field before drivers were able to settle in for racing once again; however caution appeared again on lap six with Looney still showing the way over McCoin and Melloway.

By lap nine, McCoin reeled in Looney but could not get the car to grip coming off the corners and was unable to put up a serious challenge on the leader. Within a couple laps McCoin found himself in a furious battle for second with Holtcamp and Melloway. Holtcamp eventually moved forward by lap 16 to claim second behind Looney who had checked out from the rest of the field.

For the final few laps the man on the move was Chris Cox who came from twelfth on the grid to third by the time the checkered flag fell over Looney who picked up the victory over Holtcamp, Cox, Melloway, McCoin, Dustin Hodges, Chris Smyser, Middaugh, Russell, and Lancaster.

Callaway Raceway is back in action again this Friday night and although the track’s point’s-earning season is complete, ULMA competitors can earn valuable ULMA points by racing at the track this Friday. ULMA wishes to congratulate this year’s Callaway Raceway champion Todd McCoin on his Track Championship at the raceway this season. Visit the track online at www.callawayraceways.com. The raceway is located at 7419 County Road 405 in Fulton, Missouri. Call 573-592-7795 or 573-642-6580 for race day information.

RCR is located at 4081 off of US-24 in Moberly, Missouri. The Track Phone number is 660-833-1727. Visit the track online at www.randolphcountyraceway.com for additional information.

Jon Melloway has amassed the most starts this season as he recently competed in his twentieth race of the year. Melloway, McCoin, Cox, and Hodges are all past the 15 events competed in marker. A driver’s best 15 point’s-earning nights of the season determines the final point standings.
