Central Missouri SpeedwayA hot August night turned into a hot night of racing at Central Missouri Speedway as 93 cars checked in for competition headlined by the annual track special event for B-Mods. A total of 11 Pure Stocks, 26 B-Mods, 19 ULMA Late Models, 15 Street Stocks, and 22 USRA Modifieds took part in the action throughout the night.

Pure Stocks started the night off in two preliminary heat races. Point’s leader Jeremiah Wilson claimed his fifth heat win of the year in the opening race over Don Johnson and Cody Satterwhite. Heat two went to Jason Ryun for his seventh heat win over Darrin Christy and Jason Cochran.

Up next were the B-mod heats with drivers earning passing points to determine the special event feature lineup via four heat races. Troy Carlyle claimed heat one over Shawn Strong and Brett Wood. Heat two went to Johnny McGinnis over Shadren Turner and Cody Brill. In the third heat, Cody Frazon finished ahead of Jacob Ebert and Ryan Edde while Dakota Foster won the fourth heat over Kameron Grindstaff and Tyler Lewis.

ULMA late models returned for their second-to-last appearance of the year competing in three heat races. Current ULMA point’s leader Jon Melloway claimed the opening heat win ahead of Cody Holtkamp and Jason Bodenhamer. Heat two went to Steve Clancy ahead of Todd McCoin and Dave Miller. The third and final heat went to John O’Neil over Jon Binning and Boby Penney.

A pair of Street Stock heat races rolled out next on the night with Chad ‘the Bandit’ Eickleberry hanging on for a narrow win over Jay Prevete and Brian Inlow in the first heat while Brett Wood claimed his eleventh heat-race victory over Clayton Campbell and Troy Turley in heat two.

The final heat races of the night saw the USRA Modifieds competing in three heats to sort out their main event lineup. National USRA Point’s Leader Terry Schultz rocketed to the win in the first heat with a power move off turn two with Tyler Shaw and Shad Badder second and third. Jason Bodenhamer grabbed the second heat over Jim Moody and Dean Wille. For the final heat, Eric Turner made a late-race pass and drove to the win over Lewis Jackson and Aaron Marrant.

Pure Stocks returned for their 10-lap main event when racing resumed. Jason Ryun shot out to an early race lead in the event with Jeremiah Wilson and Darrin Christy close behind. Just past the midway point of the race Ryan began to pull away from the battle for second and stretched out his lead by half a straightaway. Ultimately, when the checkered flag flew it was Ryun claiming his sixth main event win of the year over Wilson and Christy, who both limped to the finish line but hanging on for second and third with mechanical issues late in the race. Don Johnson, Leroy Morrison, Jr., and Jason Cochran rounded out the top six.

A solid and talent-filled group of 26 B-mods were up next to contest their $1,500-to-win track special event. After a few rough and tumble weeks B-mod drivers were looking for some clean and green racing and for the most part they delivered with just two cautions slowing the 25-lap main event.

Foster and Carlyle manned the front row to start the B-mod main with McGinnis and Frazon close behind in row two. Early retirees included Dean Wille and Cody Frazon both unable to continue on in the race’s early stages. Foster ran comfortably out front with Troy Carlyle, Shawn Strong, Cody Brill, and Jacob Ebert inside the top five.

The first of two yellow flags to slow the field appeared on lap nine for a crash involving Chris Brockway and Richard Brainard as both drivers had a disappointing end to their bid for a solid finish. When the race resumed, Carlyle trailed Foster with Strong, Brill, Ebert, McGinnis and Shadren Turner running near the front. The second and final yellow flag waved over the field shortly after the first caution as Brill experienced problems of his own in between turns three and four. At this point, Foster led Strong, Carlyle, Ebert, Turner and McGinnis. A fierce battle for second then took place between Carlyle, Strong, Ebert and Turner as the laps continued to click off at a brisk pace. Brill and Chad Staus were among other early retirees from the event.

From this point on, Foster extended his race lead leaving the rest of the contingent to sort things out behind him. Foster sailed onto the victory, his second big-money victory of the season and first-ever at CMS ahead of Carlyle who regained second from Strong late in the race. Shawn Strong, Jacob Ebert, and Johnny McGinnis finished inside the top five with the balance of the top ten occupied by Riley Whitworth, Brett Wood, Ryun Edde, Chad Clancy, and Tyler Lewis.

The B-Mod did a tremendous job throughout the night and it was a good mix of competitors from a wide range of different hometowns from Kansas and Missouri. In victory lane Foster thanked his family, sponsors, fans, and crew for helping him get to victory.

Current Lucas Cattle Company ULMA point’s leader Jon Melloway of Hallsville, Missouri started the 20-lap ULMA feature on pole with many time CMS late model feature winner Steve Clancy to his outside. John O’Neal and Cody Holtkamp started just behind in row two.

Melloway quickly shot out to an early race lead with Clancy in tow; however, John O’Neal experienced an early spin to draw a restart on the field with O’Neal having to go tailback for the complete restart. Once the field returned to green-flag action, Melloway held a close but comfortable lead over Holtkamp and Todd McCoin. A second quick caution appeared on the field for Gage Wineland just as two-time CMS Late Model champion Kevin Coyne’s night came to an end on the infield.

Melloway still held the point up front with Holtkamp, Jason Bodenhamer and Todd McCoin, who was looking for his second ULMA victory of the weekend after taking the checkers and track championship at Callaway Raceway on Friday night in Fulton, Missouri. Dave Miller drew a quick caution not long after with McCoin now making his way to second behind Melloway out front.

McCoin then moved his way to the front of the field with a solid restart dropping Melloway to second and in the clutches of Bodenhamer and Bobby Penney, who had fought his way forward inside the top five from his eighth starting position. Just past the mid-point of the event Jason Bodenhamer moved his way into second with Mellow, Penney, and a steady rolling John O’Neal fighting his way back to the top five.

It looked like McCoin might make it two in a row as he led through lap 16 until a late caution flew for Bobby Penney whose solid run came to an end with a spin in turn four. On the restart, Bodenhamer made a lane for himself on the middle to high lane to grab the lead with just a few laps remaining while McCoin drifted back to second position.

The final few laps were all Bodenhamer’s to lead as he beat McCoin to the line for his 24th overall victory at CMS. McCoin finished a strong second after a valiant run while O’Neal put on a driver’s clinic to return to the top three by race end after his earlier spin. Melloway settled for fourth while Jon Binning came on strong late in the event to round out the top five.

Also finishing in the top ten were Holtkamp, Gage Wineland with a nice recovery after his earlier spin in seventh. Phil Edmondson also had a solid comeback to finish in eighth with Steve Clancy ninth and Wesley Briggs, weekend teammate of Bodenhamer’s, who finished tenth. ULMA Late Models return for one final CMS appearance this season on Saturday, September 5th during the track’s annual Labor Day weekend special.

For the Street Stock main event, Jay Prevete and Brett Wood had a close battle early on as the race went green with Clayton Campbell, Troy Turley and Chad Eickleberry trying to sort things out for the third spot. Joshua Guy was an early retiree from the event just as the 60 car of Darcie Meads drew the first caution of the race on lap five.

For the restart, Wood and Campbell started behind Prevete as Campbell then took to the high side to shoot into second by lap seven. Campbell then began to work on the low-lane running Prevete for the next few laps. Wood took to the high side to try and find a new line and found himself in a fierce battle with Turley who grabbed third just shy of lap ten.

On back, Don Dannar, Eickleberry and Ron Livengood had a great battle just outside the top five. As the final few laps were turned, Campbell and Turley turned up the pressure on Prevete and as the white flag fell over the field, Campbell tried the high side to move forward into turn three. However, when the checkered fell, it was Prevete coming away with his second win of the year in victory lane followed by Campbell, Turley, Wood, Herb Dannar, and Eickleberry in a classic battle to the finish.

The USRA Modifieds closed out the night’s program as the fast-paced action thrilled the nice crowd on hand. Schultz, who is gunning for a USRA Modified championship started on pole for the 25-lap main event. With Schultz leading Bodenhamer, who was going for his second with of the night leading the way an early caution flew for Justin Plumb. On the restart, Bodenhamer powered his way to the front using up the high side for all it was worth as Schultz settled into second.

Tim Karrick and Jared Rogers were involved in an early caution bringing the field to another restart still inside of lap five. Shortly after Karrick was caught up in another caution flag incident as his night came to an early end while Tyler Shaw received some damage to the left front of his car but able to continue.

Nick Pence and Steve Twenter had problems early on in the event with the battle up front beginning to really heat up between low-riding Schultze and High-side Bodenhamer leading the way. Schultz kept digging on the low side as Bodenhamer’s preferred line began to fade, ultimately leaving him in a battle with Jim Moody, Eric Turner and Shad Badder inside the top five.

A late caution slowed the field one final time for Terry Kirk as his night came to an end off of turn two on lap 17. Just eight laps remained when the field went back to green with Schultz leading Moody, Bodenhamer, Turner and Badder.

When the final laps came around, Schultz maintained his lead and captured his fifth CMS win of the year. Bodenhamer held strong for a solid-second place finish with Moody advancing forward to third from his sixth starting position. Badder made his way to fourth with Danny Scrogham edging Eric Turner at the line for fifth with Turner sixth. Completing the top ten were Lewis Jackson, Gunner Martin who recovered from an earlier mishap to finish eighth while Jared Rogers was ninth one spot ahead of a great finish for Tyler Shaw in tenth after receiving the left-front damage. Dean Wille recovered nicely from an early race caution and was just edged out of the top 10 by one spot as he also recovered from an early race caution period.
