September 4, 2015 (By Jay Hardin)-DuQuoin racing promoter Bob Sargent started the Bill Oldani Memorial 20-lap UMP Modified race in 1994 as part of the Labor Day weekend of auto racing at the DuQuoin State Fair and it has grown into an anticipated event for many of the short track drivers and fans in the area.
Not only do the local favorites get to compete on the biggest and fastest race track on the UMP Modified schedule, they get to compete against national stars on a frequent basis. Tony Stewart put on a real show in 2011 when he came from 24th to 3rd, and Ken Schrader has been a frequent modified competitor taking the last two Oldani Memorial events.
19 cars are on the pre-entry list including former winner Jeff Parks of Marion, Illinois. Schrader may return to DuQuoin with the Federated Auto Parts sponsored machine when the short track cars run heat races Sunday night September 6, and contest their 20-mile feature event on Labor Day.
