Billy Moyer

Legit Speedway held their last races of the season over the weekend and they proved to be the best of the year. In the Late Model feature on Saturday night, a star-studded field lined up for what was the race of the season. 2015 MLRA Champion Terry Phillips, who won the $2000 to win feature on Friday night, was back on the pole for the Saturday night feature, which paid $3000 to win. Right beside him was his son-in-law Kyle Beard, and on his spoiler was Billy Moyer, Jesse Stovall lined up inside on row 3. When the green flag dropped, Terry Phillips jumped to the front and demonstrated why he is the champion, running in front of the pack and smoothly navigating the traffic. But racing legend Billy Moyer, always smooth in the turns, was chasing Phillips down for the entire race. On the final lap, Phillips and Moyer had made it past some traffic and roared down the backstretch. As they got to turn three they caught up to traffic again and coming out of turn four, Phillips couldn’t find enough room low as Moyer jumped high. As they rocketed to the finish, it was Billy Moyer winning by a matter of inches in what was the Late Model Race of the season. Kyle Beard finished in third, Jesse Stovall fourth and Jeremy Payne fifth. The big mover in the race was Hunter Rasdon from Jonesboro, starting in 21st and finishing 7th.

In other racing action over the weekend, it was two full nights at Legit Speedway, with all six classes on the dirt. Saturday night’s Hobby Stock feature saw Don Wadlow from Ironton, Mo take the checkered flag only to be disqualified in the tech barn making Kevin Collins the winner. Firday night’s winner was Richard Carson from Mtn. Home, Ar. In the IMCA Modified class, it was Shawn Walsh dominating both nights. Walsh has been the man to beat during the last half of the season. In Super Stock on Friday night, Chris Piper won the show and Saturday nights trophy was claimed by 2015 track champion Donny Miller. The USRA B MOD field was well represented with 19 cars. Wade Moyer from Inez Tx hit the track in Toby Thomspsons car and won the show on Friday and finished second on Saturday behind Shawn Strong from Clever, MO. And in the Bone Stock races, Friday night saw the largest field of the season with 8 cars on the track. Only 3 were able to return on Saturday. On Friday, it was Jesse Brooks from Batesville, Ar taking the win and on Saturday night, Bailey Harlin from Pomona, Mo got his first win of the season.

It has been an amazing first season under the new ownership of Gary and Dee Dee Stolba. A lot of improvements have been made to the facilities with many more to come during the off season. The track has always been a favorite among drivers and continues to have that reputation. Drivers from around the Midwest are learning and appreciate that the rules of the sanctioning bodies are strictly enforced at Legit. This results in fair racing conditions for everyone and makes for great competition on the track. Legit Speedway staff are grateful for the fan and driver participation this season and look forward to working with everyone next year.
