Inside Line Promotions – GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (Jan. 11, 2016) – Sammy Swindell is Mr. Chili Bowl.

He’s won the most events – five – and has secured the most Vacuworx Invitational Race of Champions – four – including last year at Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla.

“I’ve been competitive pretty much every year I’ve been there,” he said. “It just comes natural I guess. It’s always nice to do this once a year and jump in a midget and be successful. Most times my first lap I have my hands in the wrong place. I have to make an adjustment and then it’s fine from there on out.”

Swindell returns to the 30th edition of the marquee midget event this week, when he will compete in the Race of Champions on Tuesday before his Chili Bowl preliminary night on Wednesday. The event concludes on Saturday.

“You have to get the breaks,” he said. “You can’t get caught up in something somebody else does. You have to be on your toes and make sure you make the right decisions.”

Swindell did just that last year during the Race of Champions when he quickly advanced from his fourth starting position into the lead on the opening lap. He led the distance of the 20-lap race to claim his fourth Race of Champions win in seven events.

“It was really great just to jump in and take off,” he said. “You couldn’t ask for anything any better. I was right to second and then leading it right away. I guess there wasn’t much rust.”

Swindell then had to overcome a rough start to his preliminary night as he was disqualified from a heat race after a muffler came off the car. Swindell followed the misfortune by winning the D Main after starting ninth. He rallied from 13th to second in the C Main and then from 14th to win the B Main. Swindell capped the night by charging from 18th to fifth.

He then maneuvered from 16th to a fifth-place result during the finale.
