Wheatland, Missouri (April 13, 2016) – For many years the Lucas Oil MLRA was a staple attraction at the Missouri State Fair Speedway. This season they are headed back to the massive half-mile speed factory, for the first of three scheduled events.

Sunday’s event marks the first time the series has raced at speedway since 2011. It sat idle for over three years prior to running a Sprint Car show on the final night of the Missouri State Fair last year.

The track has been a relative mainstay on the tour’s schedule throughout its 27 year history. The tour’s first race was held August 18, 1990 with Little Rock, Arkansas standout Tommy Joe Pauchert taking the checkers. Other events were held every year through 1992. There were also a three races there in 1994. 1997-2000 regular events were held, and beginning in 2006 all the way until the last show to date in 2011.

New this time around is Promoter Gerry Olson. Olson, a native of Terre Haute, Indiana is a former Sprint Car racer and noted fan of the division. All seven shows on the speedway schedule this year will feature an open wheel flair, with the Lucas Oil MLRA dropping in occasionally.

Olson is longtime friends with noted racing promoter and National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Executive Director Bob Baker. Baker and Olson talked about the Speedway and as Olson put it, “One thing led to another, and here we are!”

This isn’t Olson’s first go around promoting however, he was at the helm for the first show back at the fairgrounds last season and estimates he’s promoted 35 national Sprint Car events over his career.

“David Goodson with Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps located in Sedalia has been wonderful to work with in anticipation of this season,” said Olson “Also the business community of Sedalia has really stepped up from a marketing standpoint. I’m really looking forward to all the shows this season.”

For fans wanting to make the trip to the mammoth facility Sunday, be sure and take note of the special start time of 2 PM. It will be a high speed weekend with only two divisions competing. The Lucas Oil MLRA for $5,000 to win, and the ASCS Warrior Region also racing for a $5,000 top prize.
