Hey race fans, here’s your St. Francois County Raceway Auto Plaza Group Race Recap for Saturday, April 16th, 2016!

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL weather and warmer temps made for a FANtastic night at The Bullring, as we welcomed the Boss Chassis WAR Sprint Car Series to town. We also found that the perfect weather had presented us the opportunity for something else that we have been extremely excited about, and with that, we were pleased to unveil the newest addition to the show, one of the Auto Plaza Group Monster Pace Trucks!!

Non-Wing sprint cars are extremely exciting to watch at any track, because without the wings, the cars are harder to handle and have to be driven differently than the winged cars, which have downforce and can stay in the throttle longer entering the turns. 2 totally different driving techniques. What’s even more exciting is watching drivers switch back and forth as they race in both classes in the same night, showing just how talented these guys and gals really are! But unfortunately, when non-wing cars wreck, they usually wreck big, as we saw in the opening lap of the nights WAR Heat races when Zach Clark(2) took a nasty ride down the back straight, tumbling up and over the fence. The car landed on the secondary safety fence, an additional safety barrier fence between the racetrack fence and the pit side grandstands. No one was injured in the accident. The track crews replaced a damaged fence pole and a strand of cable, and made other repairs before racing resumed.

Joe B Miller piloted his #51B machine to the 1st WAR Heat Race win, over Korey Weyant(99) and Kevin Petty(72).

Pocohantas, IL driver Zach Daum(75K) won the 2nd WAR Heat Race over Sprint Car veteran Terry Babb(8D) and Clinton Boyles(77).

The veteran proved to be a handful for the young guns in the WAR A-Main, as Terry Babb picked up the win over Weyant, Miller, Daum, and Boyles.

In the Super Street division, Chuck Adams(99) raced to the checkers ahead of Marshall Yount(45) and Joe Merritt(71) in the first Heat Race.

Matt Brown(11) carried those checkers in the next one, winning Heat Race 2 over Jason Neel(94) and Travis Goodman(76).

Brown later parked his #11 in Victory Lane, winning the A-Main, followed by Adams, Neel, Merritt, and David Baker(00).

In the A-Modified division, Greg Swaringim(25S) won the first Heat Race over Terry Johnson(32J) and Jeff Asher(56).

Heat 2 saw Brent Thompson(18) picking up the win over Billy Smith(14) and Brian Wolfmeier(37).

Kasey Nations(26) won the 3rd Heat over Tim Nash(7) and Matt Dotson(45).

Smith won the Dash, earning him the the front row inside starting position for the A-Main, with Nations to his outside. After 20 intense laps and tight battles throughout the field, Smith won a “nail biter” over Nations. Swaringim was 3rd, Thompson 4th, and Dotson 5th.

In the 410 Winged Sprint Car division, Jason Keith(28) won the first Heat Race over Joey Montgomery(12X) and Adam Parmley(21P).

Timmy Montgomery(32) picked up the 2nd Heat Race win over Zach Daum(5D) and Jimmy Hurley(35).

The Heat 3 win went to Robbie Standridge(22), followed by Jimmy Bridgeman(14T) and Dustin Adams(3).

Standridge won the Dash, earning the Pole starting position for the A-Main.

After several late cautions in the A-Main, the crowd was on their feet as “The Fredericktown Flash” Timmy Montgomery was back, parking his familiar #32 in victory lane (in Timmy’s words, “Man it’s been awhile!”). He was followed by Daum, Hurley, Bridgeman, and Joey Boyd(67).

The B-Modified division saw Kyle Stolzer(147) picking up the first Heat Race win over Kodi Savage(13) and Chuck Adams(99).

Heat Race 2 had Rudy Slade carrying the checkers, with Jeremy Welborne(27W) finishing second and Mark Crady(70) third.

Aaron Canterberry(19C) won Heat 3 over Scott Jarrett(4M) and Paul Butler(28B).

After a very intense A-Main, with 6 late-race restarts trying to knock out the final three laps, it was Kodi Savage getting his first mod win at SFCR, one he’d been chasing for a very long time. Savage was followed by Stolzer, Slade, Adams, and Canterberry.
