American-Modified-SeriesBloomington, IN (April 29, 2016)- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series began the 2016 racing season on Friday at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, IN with the 3rd Annual J.B. Robinson Memorial event and Trent Young of Crofton, KY would park his mount in victory lane at the conclusion of the event and score the $1,500 payday in the series season opener.  Young’s victory came aboard the Snap On Tools/Mitchell Tool and Motorsports/RS Dozing/Ted Brown’s Quality Paint and Body/Emma’s Place/Young’s Well Service/KBC Graphix sponsored #10y Bandit Race Car powered by a Stanton Race Engine.

Trent Young and Josh Harris would swap the lead back and forth in the early going of the contest before Young took control of the lead around lap 10.  Young would maintain the lead, but Devin Gilpin would mount a charge on Young in the closing laps of the contest and pull alongside Young on several occasions, but Young would hold off the hard charging Gilpin in a close finish to grab the win in the event.  Gilpin would settle for runner-up honors, while Harris would round out the podium finishers with his third place effort.  Defending series champion Clayton Miller would finish in fourth, while Jacoby Hines would complete the top five.

The remainder of the top ten at the completion of the 3rd Annual J.B. Robinson Memorial would be Richie Lex, hard charger award winner Ray Bollinger, Mark Lamont, Derek Groomer, and defending event winner Kent Robinson.

In preliminary action, Josh Harris was the Quick Car Racing Products top qualifier among 43 entries at 12.154 seconds.  Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Trent Young, while Clayton Miller scored the win in Fast Shafts heat two.  Hypercoils heat three went to Josh Harris, with Tait Davenport winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four.  The Out-Pace Racing Products B-Mains went to Ray Bollinger and Derek Groomer.  Series provisional starters were Matt Cooper and Dave Mitchell.

The next events for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series will take place on Memorial Day weekend in a doubleheader of action going at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, IL on Friday May 27 for $1,500 to win and on Saturday May 28 at Fairbury’s American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, IL in the AMS All-Star Shootout, paying $2,000 to win.
