For Immediate Release–

Six weeks into the 2016 racing season at Double-X Speedway and some familiar patterns are beginning to develop. The racing is getting closer and closer and the fans are enjoying every lap of it. The Super Stock division had some of the closest racing of the season Sunday night. In the feature event, the top six cars were racing nose to tail and side by side throughout the feature event. It was an all Henson front row with racing brothers Derek and Cole leading the field to the green flag. Cole “The Hammer” Henson was able to take the lead on the opening lap with brother Derek in second. The order would remain this way for the first three laps until hard charging Harlan Dowell would take over second on lap 4. Meanwhile veteran competitors Steve Beach, John Clancy Jr. and Dale Berry were running close in the four, five and six positions. On lap 10 Derek Henson would pass Dowell and challenge “The Hammer” for the lead. Lap twelve would see Dowell move into second and a lap later Beach would move into the third spot. At the checkered it was Cole Henson edging Harlan Dowell, with Beach in third, Derek Henson in fourth and Clancy rounding out the top five. Heat races were claimed by the Henson brothers.

Chuck Coffey brought an end to Rudy Wirts winning ways in the Hobby Stock division in week six. After a solid win in the heat race, Coffey found himself on the pole with Wirts alongside. Coffey would lead into turn one and open up a four to five car length margin in the opening laps. After a mid race red for a non racing related incident, Coffey held off a string challenge from Wirts to seal the victory. Hard charging Mike Schrader passed Wirts for second on lap 10 and would claim the runner up spot. Wirts was third, Chris Brockert held off Jeremiah Wallingford to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

In the 600cc Micro Sprint Feature, Harrisburg,IL driver Andy Bishop took the lead on lap one and opened up a comfortable lead on the field. A caution on lap six bunched up the field and on the restart, Ayrton Gennetten slipped past the leader in turns one and two and checked out on the field. At the checker it was Gennetten followed by Bishop, Kameron Key claimed third with a last lap pass after starting ninth. Nick Rasa was fourth and Jimmy Dowell rounded out the top five. Bishop claimed the heat race.

The Winged Sprint Cars was the final event on the card and it was a front row made up of Corey Nelson and Jonathan Cornell. Nelson would take the lead on the start and would open a small lead over Cornell who found himself in a tight battle with Cody Baker. While Nelson continued to lead, Baker would pass Cornell on lap six only to relinquish the position on the next circuit. Cornell began to battle with Nelson and after a caution on lap 11 Nelson would remain at the point until lap 16 when Cornell would put the black #28 at the point. Baker would move into second on lap 17 until he encountered mechanical woes on lap 21 and would retire from the event. A yellow on lap 22 would put Nelson on Cornell’s rear bumper but Cornell would lead the next three laps to prevail. Following Cornell and Nelson at the checkered flag were Taylor Walton in third, Tyler Blank in fourth and rookie Miles Paulus finishing an impressive fifth. Nelson and Cornell would claim the heat race victories.

Sunday Night Thunder continues next Sunday night with the annual “Battle of the Badges” law enforcement racing series making their visit to Double-X. Thanks to the fans, drivers and sponsors for your loyalty and support of dirt track ragin in Mid Missouri.
